Transmission assembly goop suggestions?

So what do you guys that build transmissions use when you reassemble the case to keep it from leaking all over the place, I thought about using black RTV but figured that might not work that well on a actual flat surface... Any Idea's?

the red sealant thats used between aluminum on transmissions is called anaerobic sealant.

Thanx, I knew there was something other than RTV, that worked better.

Gray RTV works good, Jack from Jack's transmission says that its good to use.

I've also used Gray RTV with good success in the 20+ something dsm transmission I've rebuilt over the years.
