T-case bracing?
Anyone know of a place that sells a brace for the transfer case? I know it's big for the 3000gt/stealth crowd, but I haven't seen one for dsm's. I found this pic, and was wondering if it's just homemade or what?
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/5894/003zt.jpg I want, and have been thinking about doing one for my car, since the t-case is aluminum, and I'd rather save it as best as I can. Ideas? |
Re: T-case bracing?
Do you have a spare you can bring by? If there is enough interest we can come up with one. Any further info on why people would want this and if it actually helps?

Re: T-case bracing?
I know especially for the 3kgt guys it helps the casing from flexing, and keeps the gears in check. Enough driveline shock would actually put enough torsion on the gears to "spread" them apart, cracking the case, and blowing the tcase up..someone correct me if I'm wrong. The bracing i've seen/installed on those cars looks like that of a mini roll cage, lol. I was just concerned because I'm afraid mine will do the same. I wish I had a spare, but I don't.

Re: T-case bracing?
Don't you have to actually race your car to be afraid of things breaking?

Re: T-case bracing?
Yea, shut up cher. Isn't there some fuel pump dilemma you are discussing on SF? This is a mitsu question..
|
Re: T-case bracing?
I haven't heard of anyone breaking T-cases, but then again I don't drive a cool OMG HPowerz car.
|
Re: T-case bracing?
I have heard of it, and im more-so scared, that it will happen easier on mine, being all aluminum.
I do not drive a omghighhp car.. |
Re: T-case bracing?
That looks home made to me, seems simple enough to make one.
|
Re: T-case bracing?
I say skip it unless you start breaking them. I think the 3kGT ones are specific to that case, the DSM ones don't get shreaded as easily.

Like who? Why don't you share since the seem to know all these people. |
Re: T-case bracing?
Ok, calm down Aaron. Get off your high horse, and join the rest of us down here. Do a little research, you'll find it. Tcases blowing are a common occurance for anyone putting their drivetrain through hell. I just want to make that a less common occurance.

Re: T-case bracing?
It would make me feel better to have one
but which one would happen first? destroy the internals of the transfer case, destroy transmission, or both before the mounts break? |
Re: T-case bracing?
Mitsu actually designed a fix for this. Do a search for GST :)

Re: T-case bracing?
Why are you even worried about this happening? It's like you're building a track car that will never see the track. And no, like Aaron, I have not seen transfer cases exploding.

Re: T-case bracing?
Ok, keep your bantering for the swifty threads please. I asked a question. Answer it, or GTFO.

Re: T-case bracing?
I'm not on any high horse, just because I am making a valid point of
1. I haven't heard of anyone doing this, 10sec 600-700whp DSMs not destroying Tcases. 2. You trying to get your car ready for god knows what since you haven't even run a damn 11 or 12 in a DSM. From what I understand about drivetrain breakages in general is that the flex in the drivetrain is what can put a lot of pressure on teh drivetrain even at moderate powers, considering a similar design is used in the evo and 3S its safe to say that the 3S chassis/drivetrain undergoes a lot of stress/flex I just met a 3S guy that split his trans thru 2 cases. While its easy to pick on you, I am not trying to do that here, I am trying to figure out why this would be needed, if you would provide the examples that you seem to know about I would like to see what is exactly happening and what these people are doing, why? I have a DSM too and I hate when my shit breaks whether it be a few hours or maybe even a day or two. |
Re: T-case bracing?
Why is your T-case all alum? want a cast iron headed one instead?
