Its an iPhone for Yao Ming!

The iPad is a replacement for the iTampon.

Seems like a cool device but...

Its too big for my pocket, too small for my laptop bag, doesn't do everything a laptop can do. Kicks ass over a netbook but who buys netbooks? I don't think it would be efficient enough for business, I need a real keyboard and hooking up a keyboard makes it really no different than a laptop. I guess it would be nice to watch videos on trips or to have around the house but today's laptops are getting lighter and smaller as it is. It would make a nice photo album, a $600 photo album. It is easy to see that it will take over the ebook reader market, amazon kindle is dead next to the iPad. Apple is launching the iBooks equivalent to iTunes.

Has anyone used an ebook reader? I imagine you would get eye strain after a while, maybe the iPad is easier on the eyes for ebooks?

If the iPhone display was just a little bigger, it would be perfect.

Before even reading this thread, I was thinking of a smartass tampon related post to put up, but the OP had me beat lol.

I haven't had a chance to look into these, I don't really feel the need to, I use my iPhone for Internet/email, more than I do a computer. All I know is, I'll be getting a new iPhone, once this one decides to take a dump (if it ever does).

I don't really get the device, maybe the 2nd generation of it will improve or there will be some killer app. Using it for web browsing is stupid, since it doesn't support Adobe Flash. You might not realize how many things use Flash until you use on iPhone or the iPad. Doing work on it doesn't seem too practical without any multitasking. If you want to lay in bed or in an airport or car or restaurant and look something up quick, read some news, or browse they web, then the iPhone works great. This thing seems too big to carry with you all the time, pull out on the fly, and seems like it would send out a big "steal me" in public. It would probably work great for students, if all their textbooks could be replaced with it. My wife uses the Kindle ebook reader app on her iPhone.

I hope they make an arm band for it, so I can use it at the gym.

I am thankful we have a company pushing the envelope of technological advances. If they adhered to the rest of the companies' planned obsolesence business models, we might just be getting decent mp3 players, and still have to wait for all the nice smart phones(Iphone and.... droid?).

Isn't North America already really behind the curve when it comes to phone technology?

Yes. The iPhone isn't even released in New York yet because the 3G network in New York City can't support the traffic.

Making the iPod Touch bigger is a technological advance? It took Apple about 2 years to get copy and paste functionality on the iPhone, a simple function that has existed since computers were first around, a function that Blackberry and Microsoft had in their mobile operating systems 2 years prior to Apple's introduction of it. And when it was announced they hailed it as some sort of breakthrough.

The iPad doesn't have peripheral support, it can't multitask (can only run one application at a time) and once again is tethered to the AT&T network, whose service is so terrible people are leaving AT&T for other service providers like rats on a sinking ship.

While Steve Jobs called the iPad "the best Web experience you've ever had," there is a big missing piece right now, and that's the whole Web Browser-based apps and Flash-driven content are huge elements of cloud computing and of many Web sites, and right now it's not even clear whether the iPad can even run Hulu or Netflix.

Don't forget the iPhone couldn't sent or receive pictures via txt message for quite a while too. That was another big fail on their part since every cheap phone on any cheap plan could do that.

^ Mine still can't, because I have the lowly first gen hardware.

so can we still watch pron? lol

on a serious note, pointless because it doesn't have adobe flash. flash is basically every app game out there if you use the iPad for this but still...I don't think it will be great until it is a portable laptop/iPad put together.

They sell it in NYC. They just stopped selling it for a weekend.

They just take products that are already in the market or some else has come up with and make them look pretty with an easy to use interface.

Yea, it seems like phones in Asia are more advanced than the stuff we get.

The weekend sales stopage was pretty much everywhere because the 3g version or 3gs was coming out the next week.
Phone in japan are more advanced because their network is such high bandwidth because japan is such a small country. I think they get something like 20 mbit connections on their cell phones. Makes 3g look like the rotary phone. But its only because their is such a short distance to travel.

I have a Japanese phone, its nice! Been using it for about 2 to 3 years now, only negative thing is. I have to use GSM with this specific phone since they use UIM's.
