awd... not so awd

Well, that past couple days I've been noticing that my car is oversteering more than usual. It's noticeable that the rear wheels are spinning more than the fronts. At first I thought it was the front axles but they're not leaking or ripped. I haven't really gone out and had a fun time with the car because of this issue. I don't want to make it worse than I think it may be. Does anyone have any ideas to why it could be acting like this? I haven't changed the transfer case or the rear diff fluids yet since I've owned the car. I've only done the trans fluid.

broken front diff and locked up Viscous Coupler? Usually when diff's break though, it grenades the tranny cause of all the gear parts floating around inside...

hmm. also, if adds to anything else, when I do "slide" a bit "using" the rear wheels, there is a whining noise that is louder than usual (sound is coming from the rear).

Iam having the same problem. I changed the tranny fluid. It was nasty and the fluild has about 30 miles on it. There was a lot of metal flakes. But I still have the noise. But I think the noise is coming from my head. Try changing the fluid it helped with my car with awd issue.

for sure. I'm really hoping it's not a broken diff or anything. thanks!

A bad bearing in the rear end will make the LSD to grab one wheel harder than another and also will cause your noise. Un-Bolt the drive shaft and you can rotate the rear tires and hear the bearing noise. If your fluid is low that will cause the same effect but the bearing is probably now damaged.

VC or Center Diff.

If it's operating in a rwd type of effect then most likely the center diff is broken.

hmm. are there any write ups on how to remove the vc or the center diff? I'm glad I'm off to winter vacation next week so I may have time to go under the car and inspect it.

hmm...not so sure about removing the trans yet. it's basically my only car and i dont want to do that "big" of a job on it yet. Maybe next year, I will. I haven't had time to check it out yet, works been hectic! 100 tires in 10 hours! If I do remove the trans, most likely i'll have a new 2100 clutch kit by then.

Where do you work? I work at tires plus and its been ridiculous lately. Finally starting to slow down. We have done over 450 sets of tires in the last week!

Pull the cover off the tranny; remove the c-clip, and BB's (sometimes theres one, sometimes two); slide the VC off. You may have to tap on it to get it to slide off, but if you have to pound hard, you have some issue with the center diff. Make sure you have the e-brake OFF and all the tires off the ground, so there's not any load on the center diff splines.
