Service engine light under boost
So recently my GS-T has started to throw the service engine light every now and again when going into boost, or when there is added load on the motor. It comes on, then disappears when i let off the throttle, sometimes coming back on when i go to push the pedal again, sometimes not. If i go to give it more throttle while the light is on, it starts to bog/lose power. I have not done a boost leak test yet, but was curious to see if anyone thought the turbo could be going... I have 3" exhaust, intake, fmic w/ all hard piping, greddy rs bov, dsmlink (untuned). any ideas on what could be wrong?

Re: Service engine light under boost
It means you are getting some detonation, or knock. If you see it, immediately let off the throttle. By default, DSMLink is set to show CEL when knock is at or above 5*.
Get your car tuned somewhere. |

Re: Service engine light under boost
alright, I kinda had that in mind, but was thinking more the turbo. yea, i will just be careful for the next few weeks i drive the car. I will probably wait till after winter to get it tuned, as I'm gonna pull the motor and get it freshened up (timing belt, seals, gaskets, valves and hopefully some performance items), as well as do lifters, injectors, evo III 16g, manifold, clutch and flywheel. I should be safe as long as i'm careful right?

Re: Service engine light under boost
Stay out of boost and hope your fuel trims are able to take care of your cruise AFR's.

Re: Service engine light under boost
I was gonna say to pull some timing in the mean time as well. I also have a tuning laptop if you need one/

Re: Service engine light under boost
Why oh why do people beat on their cars with mods and no tune? It isn't worth it.
|
Re: Service engine light under boost
because its the nature of man! we get all itchy cause we just put mods on our car and wanna try them out right away. wrong or right, its in our dna!

Re: Service engine light under boost
turbotalon1g, thanks man, i got a laptop, i just dont really want to change any settings, since i wouldnt really know what i would be doing.
I haven't really beat on the car, i know i have to get it tuned before raging up and down the road haha i learned that when my GTP threw a rod bearing before i could get the tune finished and i took off from only one stoplight. there goes $6k down the shitter |
Re: Service engine light under boost
Yup...$300 for a tune is pretty damn cheap insurance.

Re: Service engine light under boost
Get a quick tune from DB, my cousin has had great success from Shane.
Or try to bribe a member on here with some beer to stop on out and check out your settings quick for your mods and at least get you in the ballmark and somewhat safe to drive. |
Re: Service engine light under boost
Get a wideband like an aem and dsmlink and I can do cheap street tuning. Its how I tune my car.

Re: Service engine light under boost
Well not as easy. The aem is able to be logged into dsmlink but not wure on the other one that you have.

Re: Service engine light under boost
Just bring it to a reputable shop for tuning. I highly reccommend DB Performance.

Re: Service engine light under boost
Check the base timing.. if thats advanced It could cause knock. What is the boost set at? stock fuel injectors? stock turbo? on gas shouldn't be much over 16psi on a tuned car... I doubt the turbo is going. Turbos will smoke some when the seals start going, but other than that they either work or go boom...
