Well I am finally at the point of putting the new timing belt on. So far I have kept every timing mark aligned the best I could. The oil pump gear will not align when installing the new belt though. The mark is falling between two sprokets so its either over/under by a tooth.
I tested the pump by putting the mark@ 12 O'clock and it rotated counter clock wise like it should, so thats right. I did not remove the gear/plate, no reason to. Any advince/insight is appreciated. -6 bolt engine |
Do you have the balance shafts in the engine? If your balance shafts have been removed it won't matter which way it faces. Are you trying to line marks you made or the factory markings?

Balance shafts are still in the engine. And yes I'm refering to the factory alignment marks. I had no trouble what so ever getting the balance shaft/crank sproket staying aligned when putting timing belt B on. The exhaust cam needs to be slightly rotated back just a hair (like usual) and that lines up fine too.
I have tried different methods of installing the belt and that hasn't made a difference either. |
Your cam gears aren't lined up properly. My guess is that you have them one tooth up to high. Grab a straight edge for some help getting them straight. Lay it across the middle of the cam gear bolts if it covers both marks they're correct. But if you have the cams off the oil pump will never line up perfect.
