Is this how the front coilover should sit on the shock? The rear coilovers had an angled bottom so they sat right up against the shock.

I think all 4 of mine had a Notch at the bottom so they matched with the Shock?
I could be wrong about the fronts. But for sure my rears are cause I've had to replace my AGX's 3 times in the last 2 years. -Brian |
Well I can't drive my car untill this is done, so hopefully I can figure it out by tomorrow so I can finish up.

You did get the GC's made for the Illumina's, right? If not, that could be a problem.
|
what front upper mount are you using? if you went with GC and still haven't installed them, you should seriously consider returning them and getting pillow-ball mounts from RRE. When turning with the suspension lowered/compressed at all there is side load on the shock shaft which over time can kill the seals from wear on the shaft. You need a front upper mount that allows the shock shaft to move to different angles rather than just straight up. I've gone through one Koni already and you can clearly see the wear on the shock shaft. With GC upper mounts you are essentially trying to bend the shock shaft to the side when lowered and turning

Yes those are the GC made for the Ill's. They where Jana's that she bought from Elite, but never got to put them on the car.

First off WTF is everyone talking about, I'm stupid =(
Second, are these the right coilovers for the front? |

Oh Ok, now is that the right coilover?

just forget droping it and sell me the shocks and sell the coilovers to Tom.. he is looking for them anyways!!!

Ya I'll take the Coil overs (my GC rear springs are blown from my 400lb stereo system combined with hitting big ass pot holes)
-Brian |
There, it looks like me and brian solved your problem man!!!
now where is out cookie!!??? -E |
Back away, they're mine!
 |
Figured it out, I am a dumbass. :uh: :uh:

took you a little while... get those gears moving dood...
there is something else they give you to fit on the bottom of the shock before you put the screw thing on -E |
yeah im doing my coilovers tonight (this morning) mike 5 hours MY ASS. it took my 4 just to do one coilover. im dirty as hell with one fully completed the other front out and ready for the new spring, and the rears still left to go. but i decided on a height, just hope i dont rub. im going a full 2 inches. i can barely fit two fingers between the tire and the quarter panel. DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT!!! ok its 2:50 time for beddy until tomarrow

dude - the rears can be done in less then 20 minutes.
The fronts are usually the hard ones. but if you don't have to deal with rust you can have them out as well in less then 30 minutes. -Brian |
i second that, 30 mins a corner with hand tools :) suppose it helps to have done it before
in any case, might want to raise the car up a bit, and without a doubt, get it aligned as soon as you're done. 2.5 fingers is a good target to shoot for or you'll be bottoming out the shock, which isn't good or safe. also, dropped any amount, you're going to have a lot of toe that will need to be corrected by an alignment. hopefully you bought longer bolts and washers to space out the rear upper arms, or you're going to have an assload of negative camber in the rear to deal with and the alignment shop will try to sell you a more expensive solution |
oh, and dont just be cheap and skip the alignment because it feels straight. you need to get your toe zero'd out or 1/16" toe out on each side up front. Otherwise you're going to eat up your tires real fast. If you don't know if you're going to bottom out the shocks, put a ziptie tight at the shock shaft base, go for some hard driving, deep turns, big bumps, then see if the ziptie is pressed up against the bumpstop. if it is, not enough travel, raise the car up. you're pretty much guaranteed to be hittin the bumpstops with less than 2 finger's space between tire and fender though.
