Would anyone be interested in car storage rental?

We might get an additional space close by for storage purposes, would anyone be interested in renting space for car storage? If so what kind of rates would be acceptable per month?

I'd personally be interested in storage from you if the rates could beat the rates of other storage places.

Also would cars be stored in individual locked units or all together? That would be a deciding factor for me as well...

They would be stored together, what are competing rates looking like?

What will be in place to prevent cars from being vandalized/broken into/stolen, and who will be responsible if something does happen?

Not really sure what the rates are to be completely honest but without it being individual units I wouldn't be interested.

Locked doors and an alarm system, I haven't yet considered the liability aspect of it...

Most storage facilities take no responsibility for the safety of the items being stored. Its always a good idea to at least keep comprehensive insurance on a car when storing it at home or at a facility.

I think $50-60/month would be fair for "cold" secure non-individual unit storage; definitely more if its climate controlled.

Not a chance in hell I would pay that for a unit that isn't individual. I'm pretty sure you can get singular units for about 40 a month with extra room for parts and such. Plus most storage units are fenced in and what not which this most likely wouldn't be.

The part I don't like about non singular units are, that you risk careless people removing their vehicle and bumping, denting, or scratching your vehicle. Even worse theft attempts.

Honestly this probably wouldn't be worth the headache for the minimal profit, good idea though! :D

Where are you going to find an individual unit large enough for a car + parts for $40/month within the Cities? I was paying $40/month for cold warehouse storage up in Duluth for my S2000 and that was CHEAP even by Duluth standards. An individual 4'x8' unit at Public Storage will run you nearly $75/month, no idea how much for one large enough to fit a car but I'm betting well over $100.

Out of curiosity I looked up some prices and a Public Storage individual 10'x15' storage garage ranges from $148 to $222 depending on city. I'm sure they charge more of its a car being stored too since those prices are assuming household type items.

I guess I haven't looked into it for a while to be honest Kracka, but if I'm paying 60 a month it better be an individual unit. If need be, I'm driving an hour and a half into Wisconsin to store it for the winter. Sorry I'm cheap when it comes to storage haha...

I guess you get what you pay for so let us know how it turns out when you store your car at a $40 per unit place. Is there going to be access to a renter at any time or does a MAP employee have to be present to access the storage unit which would eliminate the theft and damages.

Re: Would anyone be interested in car storage rental?

Sorry, I was a little uneducated about this. Contacted my father, he pays $50 a month to store his 30 foot trailer / boat combo a month for a non individual unit and $60 a month for an individual unit to store his snowmobile trailer / snowmobile combo (could easily fit a car).

I feel as those prices are competitive, so maybe that's something you could base your prices off of v8killa...

Edit - Kracka hit the prices right on the nose, damn him!

Re: Would anyone be interested in car storage rental?

Well MAP would probably want to disclose that they are not responsible for damages and want to get some liability insurance anyhow. Depending how your lease works they sometimes have that built into the contract.

How much would you plan on visiting your car in the winter? Just want to stop by and give it a hadjob to remove the dust?

I think Chris' prices were fair. I may try to think of some stipulation where you limit visitations (if any).

Re: Would anyone be interested in car storage rental?

We are considering this additional space mainly for storage of customer cars and employee cars while they are not being worked on to de-clutter the shop area. Any additional space would be available for rental.

Although it would not be individual storage it would be indoors in a secure building and access would be allowed only with an MAP employee. We would also move the cars so the chances of theft or damage are minimal to say the least...
