Re: fmic install???
Remove bumper cover and crash beam, bolt-on FMIC, cut holes for piping with sawzall, cut crash beam to fit back on, do boost leak test, reinstall bumper cover. Oh, and beer.

Re: fmic install???
use a jack or something to hold the fmic up or empty beer cans?

Re: fmic install???
Crash beams are for wusses, lol. I left mine out completely, wouldn't fit with the fmic there on my 2g.

Re: fmic install???
OH, cussing and swearing, you're gonna need to stock up on those too.
Seriously though, just take your time, pull everything apart, make it work, you'll be fine. |
Re: fmic install???
I'd say cut the crash beam, if you do get in an accident and don't have one, you will regret it. I wish mine had one in my wreck.

Re: fmic install???
I agree, cut the crashbeam around the FMIC and put it back on. If you're doing this on a 1g, you'll need it to hold the bumper cover on anyways.

Re: fmic install???
ok. yep on a 1g. got all the stuff out to start fab to find out my radiator support is bent. luckly we got a parts car and im in the process of switching them. the intercooler is a spearco 216. i big guy! alot of cutting a swearing to come in the next week!

Re: fmic install???
I have put one in seveal 1gs and never put the support back in. The FMIC kind of supports the bumper and you can still bolt it on top an the sides.
It is a better idea to leave it but it is more timely to toss it. I guess I would figure if my car was hit infront it would probably be totalled anyhow. I was cleaning the garage and still have my old bumper support (from what is now swifty's car) if anyone wants it. |

Re: fmic install???
JMFabrications has a nice front bumper mount that totally eliminates the crash beam, so no matter what size intercooler you have it will fit! down side, you get into an accident, bye bye car ;-(
