Starquest guys, what should I look out for?

So I recently wrecked my baby and have been thinking of what to get next. Thought about just buying another 1g and sticking with the same old same old. Lately though I've been seeing lots of conquests for sale, and just dig the way they look and like the idea of having a rwd turbo car.

Now I've been in contact with a fella in Freeport Illinois, who is selling a 4g63t swapped 1987 conquest tsi. It's partially swapped, needs the harness installed, clutch, timing done, and an ecu. It's got a 1991 4g63 in it, that's bolted to a stock conquest transmission via an adapter plate. Car is an Arizona car, and is clean! It sounds like a good deal, and plus it's got our beloved 4g63 in it, so parts will be easier to find.

My question is what to be looking for if I were to buy this car or any conquest for that matter? Also if there's any local 4g63 swapped conquests, or local starquest sites? I'm already a member of starquestclub.com. Really just want to know if I'm gonna be jumping into it by myself so to speak, Im starting to research quests a bit to try and answer some of my own questions.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Talk to Matt Carlson and Jesse Hewitt at Primo Performance. They are freaks about starquests.

Haha, that is very enticing Jesse. Ever since the talon got wrecked, I've been in a dsm depression, and don't want any reminders of what I'm missing lol. I'm torn between a clean 1ga, or starting up a conquest project. All depends on my financial situation.

Look at the frame rails underneath the car; look for signs that it was ever in a wreck, it's easy to tell. Rear wrecks total the car, front ones maybe are workable. the 4g64 wide block bolts to the stock tranny, so make sure the narrow block will work with the adapter plate. And wiring is so easy, it probably won't be too hard to finish it up, once you have the crap for it.

Look for bent rims, rusty fenders in the back (again, it's a unibody and the rear fenders are part of the whole frame). Ripped seats will get you some bargaining chips, see if the lights in the dash work, if you can. Reach under the car and wiggle the driveshaft, if it clinks when you twist it back and forth, it needs a new inner shaft for the torque tube, and the nose gear on the diff. Those can be had from mitsu still I think.

The rag joint for the steering column goes bad usually, and can make it feel like there is about 15-20 degrees of free play in the wheel (which that's what it is). They are frickin expensive, so it's better to just weld the shit up and have better steering that stock new.
