I noticed this at work the other day, never seen a turbine housing like it.
I beleve it came off a Caterpillar 3208.
Sorry for the crappy phone pic.

I'm curious as to what the point of this is? Unless you have a twin plenum intake system on the engine, you would still have just one throttle body, which defeats the purpose of two outlets on the compressor housing.

why couldnt that be the exhaust side?

It looks like it's aluminum, so I doubt it could stand up to the heat of the exhaust.

well to me it looks like its setup for v-band clamps, or whatever the quick exhaust clamps are called, if it was for intake clamps why would they cut a notch and roll the lip.

either way its hard to tell in the picture what its actualy made out of

To me it looks like an exhaust housing with a v-band inlet and v-band outlet. The compressor housing is sitting right next to it..

Alot of heavy equipment uses v-band clamps on the compressor housings. Most of the pushbacks and other airplane moving stuff at the airport use them on both the intake and exhaust sides of the engine.

I think it's an exhaust housing.

It could be part of a sequential turbo setup.

twin intercoolers

Its the exhaust side. Its cast iron.

Must be freshly sandblasted that makes it look like aluminum.

That is the exhaust housing.

Re: here's a turbo for the v8/v6 crowd

If that's the exhaust housing then it would be two exhaust inlets to spin a single turbo. Pretty cool for a big engine.

Caterpillar used compound twin turbo setups on there big dogs instead of using egr valves to pass epa 04 emmisions. I dont think they will be doing that anymore as the twin turbo setup will not be able to pass epa 07 emissions.
