New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
So, saturday I beat the crap out of my car, and yesterday I went to put it back in storage for a while, and when I got on it in third to watch the boost gauge, it hit a fuel cut type of thing, but I'm not sure what RPM it was, since my eyes were elsewhere.
It did it more after that, but it seems to be near peak boost (over 15psi). I haven't touched anything related to that in the AEM, and the boost controller was working fine saturday (5th gear pull had no problems), and a quick look over the engine bay showed no vacuum hoses blown off which caused a similar problem before. Couple questions then: First, none of you dudes touched anything on my car while I wasn't looking on saturday, did you? haha, j/k. And B, why would doing nothing from one day to the next cause a problem to spring up? And it was definately a fuel cut, not a rev limiter, since it would do it pretty much at full throttle.... ohhh, could my tps need to be reset? would that cause the AEM to freak out a bit? |
Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
could it just be a boost leak? maybe a coupler loosened up or something random like that? that would be my first guess. if your venting i would check after the airflow sensor

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
That's what it sounds like to me, do a boost leak test, then move on from there.

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
loose/faulty plug wire possibly? I would check all ignition connections, then boost leak test it..

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
Ok, I don't think a boost leak would even affect the system, the map and temp sensors are in the intake manifold. But good suggestions, thanks! If you think of any others, like common DSM problems, let me know.

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
could be a kink, or leak in the vac line to the boost gauge, or a collapsed one going through the firewall. I know I had issues on multiple occasions with the tiny clear line supplied with autometer boost gauges collapsing
if that's the case, the boost might be higher than it's actually reading, thus, your hitting fuel cut. How did the car feel (power-wise) compared to before? |
Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
Pretty good actually, pretty normal. It was holding constant boost on the gauge though.

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
could be a boost leak holding boost or not, just need a small one, so youll hold your normal boost but your turbo is actualy pushing out alot more than its supposed to be, its just getting bled off

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
yeah, well, it's going to wait for a while since I'm going out of town for a few days again, maybe it'll be a good little conquest and fix itself as it has in the past.

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
Boost cut is set at 19psi in the tune I have for your car.

Aem.

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
should I just convert back to tbi? lol

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
Get a 1g E-prom, make it work with your 90 wiring harness and run DSMlink.
|
Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
I heard those run 1600's better than aems :) will the DSMLink work with speed density stuff? or would I have to convert back to mass air sensor style?

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
V3 Works with SD no problem

Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
How much boost was the car tuned on? Is it overboosting?
|
Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
17.5psi (or "43" % on the boost controller), and I never touched that. My analog gauge and the boost controller never said it was higher than that, but it's hard to know for sure what's going on without hooking up the laptop, and wouldn't you know it, the very same day my car started acting up, my hard drive took a huge dump and won't work, haha. My friend is going to let me hook up his computer to my car, so I'll update if/when I find something.
I forgot, it did it the first time at WOT, higher up in the rpm range, then it seemed to do it at lower boost, so i just parked it and said screw it for now. |
Re: New problem as of yesterday, where to start?
really sounds like you developed a small hole somewhere and its getting bigger
thats what happend in my talon, worked gret for a while, then started getting fuel cut just before redline, slowly backing its way down to any boost was causeing it. turned out the line coming off my j pipe to the boost controller was rubbing and developed a hole. im sure this can happen anywhere after the airflow sensor |
