Are they the same?

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

The engines aren't the same, so doubtful.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

The lancer has a 2.0 4G63 for 03-05.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

1 5/32" x 57 13/32" (153 Teeth)

Those are the specs for the timing belt your Evo needs. Just makes sure its the same as that.

Saw your post on evoM about this to...the big question is WHY? Just get an OEM one or a gates, don't screw around man!

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

Oem ones are not that expensive and most likely in stock at brookdale.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

I have a new oem one on right now. The reason I am asking is that my timing belt is jumping on the timing gear. I was thinking I had a bad timing belt tensioner. But when I got the car I guy who had it side it was all new when he did 2.3 stroker kit. I got the timing belt at advance auto in mankato but all they were showing for a belt was a lancer 2.0.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

Hrm. I got my gates belt at o'reily, not sure what it was listed under but it doesn't jump teeth randomly :D So did you replace the tensioner? When the belt is on and tensioned, make sure you rotate the motor over few times to make sure everything is happy. 'All new' doesn't always include brand new pulleys and such, perhaps the puley opposite the tensioner is going bad?

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

Make sure the tensioner camber-pulley is rotated counter clockwise to tension (like a 2G) vs clockwise (like a 1G or GVR4)

If it is the wrong way it will skip teeth.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

I was thinking of just getting a new tensioner. But will a 03-05 lancer tensioner work on a evo. They look the same but the lancer is like almost $30 cheaper.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

If you are looking for cheap parts you got the wrong car.

Bite the bullet and get the correct one or trade in your Evo for a 1G

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

dont go cheap with an Evo like that man. Get what's needed to make it run great. If it doesn't sound, look, work the same, dont even bother getting something that "will work".

I was just asking.I want to get the right part it just look the same. I was looking a getting the BLE TIMING BELT TENSIONER for STM

I got a real nice 1g if you're looking for something that's cheap to maintain. Ill trade ya straight up, plus this half empty bag of tacos at midnight doritos I have in front of me..think about it...

No, get a stock one from mitsu (FOR AN EVO)--Brookdale is a sponsor here and they give us a great discount!!!! Like I said, get new pulleys and go through all of your timing stuff to make sure everything is in good shape. If you're jumping teeth, you're on your way to a blown motor.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

ya if your skipping teeth and having some issues i would make sure once you got that new belt on, that you do a good compression test just to make sure you didnt bend anything

travail 07-18-2009 05:08 PM

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

The TIMING BELT TENSIONER is bad. So I am getting a new one and the I have the right timing belt two.

Kracka 07-18-2009 05:10 PM

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

You should get a new belt too since the old old one skipped and potentially damaged the teeth.

Re: lancer/evolution timing belt

ya when your dealing with the timing belt its not something that you want to cheap out on. you want to replace every and all parts that way down the line a $40 part dosnt crap out and take with it $3000. id say the timing belt would be the last thing i would cheap out on.......what is the quality on an advanced auto timing belt, that is ran with a 35r, sketchy in my book, OEM mitsu or kevlar, i wont touch anything else
