Having overheating problems
I'm still overheating!!
I put spacers on the hood Removed the thermastat " MAP recomended it " Bought a mishimoto radiator and cap running mostly water and some coolent have 2 mishimoto 12 inch slim fans running at all times REMOVED A/C Put a heat sheild on my manifold and turbo I had a 180 thermastat in there before I removed it, All of this has been happening since I got it back from map and I dont know what else i could do.... I think it could be my water pump because I will let the car run for 20 min at idle with a funnel and a radiator cap with a hole cut into it to suck in when needed and nothing, but when I turn the car off it bubbles and sucks some in.... the I do it again but at the end it doesnt suck any in... next step I put the cap on and move my car like 25ft then look again and my hose's are callapsed!! what could this be? Any help would be greatly appreciated |
Re: Having overheating problems
Have you done a pressure test on the coolant system? Is coolant disappearing?
When you bleed the system with a funnel, so you see it flowing at all? You shouldn't run without a thermostat or restrictor plate, that can cause all kind of problems and tuning annoyances including even worse overheating in some cases. Race cars that don't run a thermostat will still run a restrictor plate to allow the cooling system to be able to build pressure easier(water boils at high temps at high pressure) and to keep from causing any "short circuits" in the cooling system. |
Re: Having overheating problems
No pressure test yet want to do that today..
I do not see it flowing but there is a big funnel with fluid in it on my car.. I had a 180 thermistat in there before I took it out and it made no difference but people have been telling me to put it back in, so I may do that today aswell. |
Re: Having overheating problems
Should both of the hoses be pressureised? Top and bottom?
|
Re: Having overheating problems
Yes. Sounds like you've tried a lot of band-aids to cover a serious problem.

Re: Having overheating problems
Im till scratching my head about this... I dont have a pressure tester and would need a new gasket to put in the thermastat its a 180 degree one that map put in before and maybe drill a hole into it.

Re: Having overheating problems
Also, Is it legal to drive without a hood on your car?
|
Re: Having overheating problems
I have in my 2.3 the same radiator as you, 190 thermostat, a 10" and 12" slim fans wired stock as pushers, no AC, and I never go over half way which would be under 200. Sounds like a water pump possibly.

Re: Having overheating problems
^ What? That doesn't make any sense to me.
I'd say replace the water pump if you can't see any coolant flowing. |
Re: Having overheating problems
Water pump can't go the wrong way. If the blades on those are stamped steel, I've seen pumps with a nub where the fins rusted away. check the water pump.

Re: Having overheating problems
the only thing is that the water pump is brand new!?!?!?
|
Re: Having overheating problems
The pump cant go the wrong way, unless somehow your engine is running the wrong way :). What makes you think that its overheating? Just the gauge?
|
Re: Having overheating problems
So can you see coolant flowing with the engine running and the cap off or not really? Check the actual coolant temp in a log with Link.

Re: Having overheating problems
I have said it was the water pump since day one. I hope im wrong chris but I think map should replace it for free since you have just been buying tons of shit from them to try and fix your over heating problem.

Re: Having overheating problems
Well I just got off the phone with Alex from MAP and I'm dropping off the car tomorrow for them to look further into the hassle of overheating!

I got the mishimoto radiator F.A.L fan shroud Then the fan shroud wouldnt fit so I ordered a MAP 02 housing and got that coated which was over 300 dollars F.A.L fans still wouldn't fit so I bought 2 12" mishimoto slim fans Got them to both run at the same time, and at all times and alot of money on coolent taking the radiator in and out so many times its just F-in rediculous! |
Re: Having overheating problems
Hope everything works out for you and doesnt cost you any more money. You have spent enough

That is my thread with all the crap I had tried on my car. Might be worth scouring through quickly. |
