What do you guys think?
http://getwwa.com/cars/salvage/4a42a9e8d97b4
My buddy is thinkin about flyin out to Utah to check out this evo VIII. It had a salvaged title because it was a theft recovery, but the title is clean now. All it needs in a new fmic, turbo, exhaust mani, intake, seats, and some wheels. He's thinkin about offering $11,000 for it and spending roughly $2000 to get it up and running. I'm pretty skeptical and kinda leaning towards bad idea, but I'm wondering what you guys think about it. -Brian |
Re: What do you guys think?
personaly id say pass looks like some of those wheels are missing lug nuts and who knows what got ruined as it was ripped appart

Re: What do you guys think?
It looks extremely clean, but it's going to take more than $2000 to get it up and running, I'd say closer to $5000.

The way I see it is like this: fmic $100 intake $50 exhaust mani $150 wheels $1000 seats $800 What am I missing? btw my buddy decided that he'd take it for $10,000 but no more than that. |
Re: What do you guys think?
you forgot another 600 for a turbo, also im guessing the ecu is probly missing

Re: What do you guys think?
no. i think you could find a better one somewhere else. there are plenty of Evos out there under 15k...its just really really far from here and they also have high miles.

Re: What do you guys think?
No. Buy something that at least runs. Best thing that car can aspire to to be at this point is a parts car.

Re: What do you guys think?
I'm sure he'd run into tons of unexpected costs, a lot of things messed up from being tampered with and whatnot.
I support the idea of just finding one running for sale. |
Re: What do you guys think?
fmic? including piping? how about a bov? gaskets? fluids? things add up FAST! stick to a runner.

Re: What do you guys think?
Good luck in getting that car going.... I am in the salvage business and I see tons of theft recoveries daily. Alot of times theft recoveries are just cars stolen because people need rides and they drive them around until they run out of gas. This car was taken for parts and those cars are usually a complete mess. Yes the car will look good in the pictures but remember this car was bought by a company to make some money. They hide cut wires, cleaned it out (looked like a water line on the passenger side foot well), and will bump up the actual condition of the car. The car doesnt even run and you are willing to pay 10,000? So you all realize that the people that stole the car could of cared less on how they took it apart. Breaking panels, cutting wiring harnesses, bending stuff is all part if the game, just because you would take the car apart nice doesnt mean they would take the car apart nice. You also cannot forget about the "fun" the thieves had before they stripped the car and how do you know they didnt decide to pop the motor before they stripped it down because the engine was no use to them..........
Go ahead and buy it, I wish you all the luck in the world and just remember if the car turns out to be a lemon you wont get your money back out of it..... p.s That car is about a 5,000 car at insurance auction. |
Re: What do you guys think?
Bad idea. He would be much better off buying a good condition '03 VIII for under $15k.

Re: What do you guys think?
If it was 1/2 that it would not be a bad price
|
Re: What do you guys think?
Sweet thanks for the input guys! I think that's enough to convince my buddy to pass.

Re: What do you guys think?
Convince him to buy it so he can buy my stock intercooler!
