oil priming long sitting motor

I have a car that has been sitting for four years and just got started. All of the old oil had found its way to the pan. It would not build any pressure or prime when I would crank it with plugs out and injectors shut off. Does anyone know how to get some oil to the pump to get it to prime and build pressure?

Drain the old oil out, refill with new oil, and start the car up; this will be the fastest way to build oil pressure. You won't be able to build up much oil pressure by just cranking the engine since you're only getting a few hundred RPM's. Once you start your engine, it will have pressure within 1-2 seconds and will put a lot less wear on your internals than sitting there and dry cranking it repeatedly.

^^ +1. Not to mention less wear on your starter.

Didn't build any pressure running for 10 sec. Not going to run any longer than that. Google brought me to this, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/arti...installed.html pretty interesting. Going to give it a try.

Do you have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge or how are you judging this?

You won't build pressure trying to crank a DSM motor. I have also tried it with the motor out of the car trying to prime new motors with a drill or whatever spinning the oil pump with no luck also. You just have to do like that link above and start it soon after.

My talon sits for about 10 months out of the year with no start. Every year I yank the ignition fuse and disconnect the plug to the injectors and crank it over. After about 15 seconds of cranking my oil gauge comes up about a quarter of the way up. Maybe if it sat for two years plus it wouldn't do this but it works for me.

I used a drill on the pump gear when my motor was on a stand and it totally worked. I packed the pump gears beforehand with grease. Pulled the valvecover off afterwards to make sure oil got up there and indeed, it had.

Factory gauge and looking in the oil fill opening. The top end is dry as a bone. The dip stick is way over full (everything in the motor has worked down). I have had this sitting for almost 4 years.

You're sure the oil pump works?
