clutch pedal went soft
i was driving home today and my clutch pedal went soft on me out of no where. i have put over 1k on it and got it used, it looked broke in right? its a act 2100. why would it go soft? it still is soft after it sitting. could it be from my oil leaking into it? cuz i drip alittle oil out of the rear main.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
Does the slave cylinder rod move when you press the clutch pedal? Wouldn't surprise me if your clutch master and/or slave cylinders took a crap on you.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
i will check tomorrow. thanks. the slave cylinder is new wit the tranny. dont kno about master.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
Also check all your lines to make sure you didn't spring a leak somewhere.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
Pump your clutch a ton of times, and if you get drips, follow them.
But take it from me, it doesn't have to be leaking to be bad. My slave cylinder took a crap, and wouldn't squirt fluid, but would suck in air, so the clutch would just go straight to the floor after a while, and I'd have to pump it to get pressure. Also check both sides of your firewall for the master cylinder leaking. |
Re: clutch pedal went soft
make sure the rubber boot at the master cylinder right behind the clutch pedal isn't leaking all your fluid down onto the floor.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
so now it is slipping like crazy in 4th and 5th. i kno my rear main is leaking alittle, could this be the problem? i got the tranny clutch and flywheel from iceminion, and ive put 1300 on the clutch, new tranny. it was a used clutch but looked good. how could this be fixed without pulling the tranny???

Re: clutch pedal went soft
The inspection plate is your friend. See if there's oil in there.
I don't think there's any way around pulling the tranny to fix this. Every possible reason for clutch slippage requires it. If there's one thing I've learned in the past year, it's that if your shit leaks, fix it when it's easiest. If you knew it was leaking, why would you not deal with it when you already had the tranny off? |
Re: clutch pedal went soft
i was told the motor was rebuilt 5k ago, so it never crossed my mind that it would leak, but im for sure fixing the leaking if i cant fix the clutch slippage.

Re: clutch pedal went soft
try adjusting the clutch so it has some play when pushing down b4 it engages and then move the cruse control switch to increase the play it should have a quarter inch of play or so
