Suspension grease

What kind of grease is best for swaybar mounts that will last for a while without washing away. I tried the Mobil 1 stuff from the parts store, but it doesn't seem to last even a year. Am I asking too much? Marine grease maybe?

Re: Suspension grease

Is your suspension squeaking or? All grease eventually dries up when exposed to elements like air and water.

Re: Suspension grease

Lithium grease, bearing grease. Whatever you choose will probably work, and yeah you have to re-grease things like this once in a while. Did you "rally" your car or splash through a bunch of big puddles?

Re: Suspension grease

The swaybars start squeaking every spring when everything's all wet. I can ubolt the ends and move them up and down to make the noise. It's happened every spring on both Subarus I've owned. I guess I was just wondering if there's a locally available alternative to lithium grease or the "synthetic" bearing/axle grease. That stuff just doesn't seem to last very long. Not even 9 months. Stock supension doesn't get greased every year, does it?

Astroglide.

Re: Suspension grease

Probably not. You should make some little "shields" that bolt on and prevent grime and water from directly hitting or splashing the swaybar mounts. Or I should. I smell a business opportunity.

We should synergize. I just finished making a custom intake heatshield.

Re: Suspension grease

I used Redline synthetic grease on my swaybar bushings and they haven't made a single noise after going through 2 winters.

Speaking of which, can you bring those Perrin end-links to Porky's tonight?

Re: Suspension grease

Can do. Do you have any of that stuff leftover? I'll trade you the end links for a few globs.

Re: Suspension grease

All grease will eventually wear away. Can you install different bushings? Are the ones you are using poly or OEM?

Re: Suspension grease

Stock ones, black rubbery poly stuff. I guess I would just like to make it one maintenance cycle per year.

Re: Suspension grease

Thats weird they squeek.. never had a problem with stock or poly bushings. Maybe order some poly ones?

astroglide is water based you gotta get some serious lube thats oil based like "gun oil." astroglide will break down in the heat of the moment. poly bushing are noisy. ive also heard so much noise out of a bushing. if you could get the hold downs that have a grease zerk in them thats the way to do it. otherwise you gotta live with it or go to town with grease. energry suspension makes a grease that comes with the new parts or you can buy it. the part number is 9.11104 for a 8 oz tub or 9.11110 for the 3 of 1/2 oz squirt tubes. I ran this stuff on my poly bushings and IT REALLY WORKS..

Re: Suspension grease

LOL @ astroglide response, nice work lucasoil4u.....yeow!

Red, I have some of this magic red grease in a grease gun at my house, I don't know what it is, maybe mobil1 synthetic, idk. I got it from a friend who did a swaybar install at my house and left it for me. Some day I'll crack the can open to see what it is so I can fill it up again, but for now, I have never had anything creek that I have put it on. You're welcome to a pump or three out of it, no problemo!

I have a jar of marine grease (the blue/green stuff) too, if you want that.

Re: Suspension grease

You could buy some replacement bushings:

http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/subaru.html

They'll also include a grease packet.

Re: Suspension grease

Thanks for the input guys. I had the nice poly ones on my old car and it kept happening. I don't know how Subaru could mess up a swaybar bushing design (or how I could put grease on wrong) but somethings up with that design. I'll probably try that red stuff.

Re: Suspension grease

I'd suggest lithium grease. It's surprising that the stock rubber bushings are squeaking.
