External Oil Filter.
The DSM in my opinion is not that well thought out when it comes to physical layout of all the components.
At least from a user serviceability standpoint. *****Clarification: my goal is to attach an external oil filter housing, somewhere away from the exhaust, and as a bonus, feed clean oil to the turbo, in case of engine failure, I don't want to lose both my engine and my turbo (HAPPENED TO ME)******** The 90 oil filter housing is just fine, but for cars that do not have the 90 oil filter housing and all the cooling, I will be doing something completely different. First, take your 91+ oil filter housing and cut it the hell in half, at a slight angle exposing the two holes going to the oil filter side of the housing. Weld on two -8AN bungs. Connect one of these (somewhere else in the engine bay, perhaps where the washer fluid goes) http://imgur.com/MSGF4l.jpg 2x "IN" 2x "OUT" comes with 2x plugs already installed. remove one plug. attach "IN" to oil filter housing (pump side) attach "out" to turbo attach "out" to cooler -> feed to engine. cost at walmart $21 (comes with fuel filter, throw away and use oil filter.) benifits: never feed dirty oil to your turbo (killed a turbo that way :( ) thoughts? |

I have never seen an internal oil filter on a DSM :p
Why not just buy an external kit to begin with? They are pretty cheap, then just run SS lines instead of the crappy rubber stuff they give ya. |

I guess I don't even understand what you're doing. You're description is very unclear to me, so I don't understand what's going on. Maybe it's just me.

I think he's relocating the oil filter to another location. One output goes back to the engine or cooler, and another goes straight to the turbo.

Yes, I guess I should have been a little more descriptive. an external oil filter, relocated is what I was going for.
And a oil filter relocation kit is not cheap last time I checked. |

Being able to change your oil filter without taking off the exhaust (ok, that is a bit of a stretch) but still.
There are more places to leak, but pipe thread and AN fittings are pretty cool in my book, havent had alot of places to leak. |

I don't have to take my exhaust off to replace my filter. I run Mazda filters.

I run Wix filters (the short fat one) and I don't have any problems with clearance to anything. There's a solid 2" between the filter and downpipe.

Crazy shit indeed. Walmart parts on your car, sweeeet. :) I get it though. How about pics of where you attached the remote mount and how it's working for ya? If you installed the oil feed line properly, wouldn't you be getting clean oil to your turbo anyways? |

For most people this will never be an issue, the reason that my engine failed is still very strange, but if i ever experience an engine failure again, I don't want to be picking up the tab to fix my turbo too :( |

i dont know i have a 3in turbo back exhaust and i can change my oil filter just fine. theres plenty of room to get to the oil filter.
