14b compressor with a 16g exhaust housing...

so i had a blown 16g and a 14b that had a major crack in the exhaust housing. so i put the 16g exhaust housing on the 14b with the 16g wastegate actuator and it works very well. spools at 3k and holds a constant 14 psi all the way to redline. i was very impressed on the amount of power it provided. i give it two thumbs up!

Haha I'm pretty sure a 14b should spool well before 3k rpms.

Glad you got it running. Be sure to check for any boost leaks or exhaust leaks before to turbo to make sure everything is as good as it can be.

Correct me if I am wrong: but a small 16G exhaust housing is the same as the 14b....any benefit you are seeing is probably beasue it is no longer cracked.....boost leaks on the exhaust side of the turbo can negatively affect the turbo, just like boost leaks in the charge pipes

14B exhaust housing is a 6cm. The small, big and Evo 3 16g are all 7cm exhaust housings.

i never used the 14b with the old exhaust housing. i picked it up yesturday from a buddy for the wastegate actuator. i actually drove up to the cities yesturday and bought a 13b from greasemonkey which i didnt even use. i figured the 14b/16g would be a better turbo.

yeah just do it up and make it it spool fast. nothing better than spooling a turbo at low rpms lots of pull threw the entire rpm range! :)

So what made you consider doing this, instead of just getting a new 16g? I assume if you had one before, you were more happy with the 16g than the 14b.

It sounds like it was a very budget friendly move though. Would you consider doing a write-up for the rest of us?

Also, How long of a process was it? Was it something you did alone, or did you have any help? Im kinda getting into this whole turbo thing, and would love to learn anything new that I can!

Knowledge ftw!

All you have to do is take off the clamp of the 14b that holds the exhaust housing on. It's 1 bolt. Then take the exhaust housing off the 16g and swap them over. That's it.
