Ceramic coating???

I am getting a pair of headers for the viper and want to get them ceramic coated. Anyone local do this and anyone have an idea roughly what this would cost?

Thanks,
John

Wow. I'd think with the amount this has been posted there would be no question as to who and where you could go.

FFPerformance, based outta MAP's shop
Halon
Primo Performance, out in arden hills

I'm sure there's more, but these guys all do legit jobs, as I've got something on the car done by them all. Call em up. It's listed other places all over this board.

Any idea what it would cost since you have done it several times? Any pics of some of the work?

Re: Ceramic coating???

well, FFP I don't remember as that was LONG ago, but they did Josh's blue manifolds for his stealth and the manifolds in black for john's galant. Halon did my VC, but pricing on that was a bit lower as he gave me a deal and i gave him my old shaved vc. and Primo didn't do a hole part, just touch-up on my VC when they welded on the -8 bungs for my catch can setup. So, I can't really give you much help for pricing. If you find something out though, let me know as my exhaust mani NEEDS a better coat then what it has.

Talk to Bob @ MAP (FFPerformance on here) he's done some good stuff that I've seen, and he's doing my turbine housing right now. I'll be posting the results, but so far he's efficient and does kick ass work.

Probably about $100 - $150

Bob does great work so I'd go to him. He is the one who did my intake manifold.

He is now working at MAP, but here is his site:
http://www.ffperformance.com/

I would guess around $200, but ask him and I'm sure he'll give you an exact quote plus choice of colors available.

Re: Ceramic coating???

Swifty how much did they charge for the bungs and did they remove the baffle?

Swifty1638 02-28-2009 03:53 PM

Re: Ceramic coating???

NO removing baffle..you gotta keep that man. Basically, just weld on the fittings, then drill out the center of them..done. I honestly forget what it costed though.

Re: Ceramic coating???

Thanks for the info. Any recommendations for color? Just headers so maybe black??? I am picking them up on sunday and he said they could use a coating as they don't look that good.

On the other hand, I got a set of wheels which he said weren't in the best condition and they were fine after he dug them out of the snow. Ofcourse I found these after throwing the exhause back on the car...

Re: Ceramic coating???

I would vote silver or black, but he also offer blue, red, and orange.

Re: Ceramic coating???

Yea, it is deffinitly between silver and black. I will decide after I pickup the headers.

turbotalon1g 02-28-2009 06:10 PM

Re: Ceramic coating???

I would do black to match the car, unless they are really nice headers then maybe a silver to "show them off" say.

Swifty, so what happened to all the small shavings? how many miles since this has been done?

Just so we have something to reference as well, here is a photo of the colors: (I do also have a new 'titanium' color that is semi metallic and is kind of a bright grey- not pictured here)

Re: Ceramic coating???

Do we have a cost for a tubular manifold?

Aaron, the shavings where blown out-what was left. Drill very slowely, and use vaseline on the end of the bit..that will have most of the shavings stick to it. I've driven over 4,000 miles with no issues.

Re: Ceramic coating???

Use tapping oil, not Vasoline LOL

Bob, would it be possible for you to post an estimated pricing chart for the more commonly ported/coated items?

Sure thing man.

Individual item pricing:
Ported exhaust manifold (DSM/EVO/FP): $245
Ported turbo (anything smaller than a 60-1): $90
V2 ported intake manifolds (DSM/EVO): $250
V3 ported intake manifolds (DSM/EVO) (cut/welded plenums): $650
Head porting will vary so call for a custom port job based on your application
Ceramic coating for exhaust manifolds (DSM/EVO/FP) (black or blue): $90
Ceramic coating for Ported turbo (anything smaller than a 60-1): $70
Intake manifold ceramics (thermal dispersant on exterior, thermal block on flange): $90

Package deals:
Ported and coated exhaust manifold and turbo (DSM/EVO/FP): $345
Ported and coated exhaust manifold, turbo, and V2 intake manifold, coated: $595

Shipping would be extra if not local as well.

We can do just about anything custom, so if you have manifolds that aren't listed, or have other porting needs, please contact us and we will take care of you!

Thanks again for the support guys!

Re: Ceramic coating???

Oh almost forgot, the black and blue are single stage colors designed to withstand turbo an nitrous temps (rated over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit) and the other colors (red, orange, silver, titanium) would need additional base coating to make them last on turbo applications. Because of this, there is an extra cost for non turbo coatings. Please call for accurate pricing.

Also, we generally coat the outside AND inside to offer the best performance and protection of your manifold.

Re: Ceramic coating???

Bob is the shit, he has done all my coatings and port work. I love it.

Swifty i'll wait a bit, that "trick" isn't really a secret and a bit risky.
