Vibration starts over 35mph???
I just drove my car for the first time since october, and im getting a vibration that starts at 35mph. Theres no vibration in the steering wheel, i feel it most in the center counsel. It feels like its coming from the rear half of the car. I definetly did not have this problem when i put the car away, and i cant get my car tuned until i figure this out.
My first thought were the tires, but i really am not sure. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Flat spots on tires from sitting...

Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Thats my guess as well, or the tires need to be balanced.

Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Check air pressure too. May sure rear brakes arent sticking as well, that might cause pulsing.

Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Take the tires off the back and put them on the front. Then see if anything changes. I would bet its flat spots on the tires as well..

I just drove it again, and it comes on hard when its in 4th gear and in vacuum. So this kinda makes me think its not the tires, but im gonna try switchin them around anyway. |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
My jack just went to shit and my little brother has a coupon for a free tire rotation at Tires Plus, but he's out of town til tom afternoon. So im just gonna wait and save myself some messin around.
Ill post the results tom afternoon. Thanks for the info so far. |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Possibly the carrier bearings for the driveshaft? But I'd say it's more likely that it's in the tires.

Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
In vacuum as in full vacuum, or in vacuum as in just not boosting?
If it's full vacuum, you're engine breaking, and it could be due to the weight shift. Just a thought. |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
if it's shaking so much, why are you driving it at all? My guess is tires, but flatspots don't happen from sitting for a few months, my quest sat for two years and it drove with no shaking or anything.

Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
awd or fwd?
Don't overlook wheel bearings too. Pretty much any weight-bearing part of the car could have settled, flattened, stuck, etc, etc over the past 4 months. |

Its AWD, and i was considering wheel bearing also, but how do i test those?? |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
Ever heard of tire kickers? lol. Grab the tire and see if it wiggles when it shouldn't.

That said, I'd blame something at the front of your car, since that's where the weight is while it's at its worst. |
Re: Vibration starts over 35mph???
I also think it would be flat spots, or something with the brakes sticking or bearing(s).
