Ok I was checking out Supra's yesterday in the Autotrader and came across a Black 1997 TT 6psd for 13,900 But located in London.

I emailed the guy asking about it and if the price was correct today I recieved this email from the guy.

Re: Owner 53719992: AutoTrader.com: Vehicle Lead

The Supra i have to sell is the `97 Twin Turbo Toyota Supra , Black colour , for $13900 USD.
I`m located in United Kingdom ( London ) and i have an contract with Lufthansa AIrlines and a small company who will use an feribot to ship the car to you.For shipping and rest of the taxes is
not a problem cause i will pay it. And the ammount will be paid by you after car is there and you
check it and see how run on the road. The car is an left side drive and is in excellent condition.
The mileage is 39,067 on the odometer. Thanks verry much and email me back if you are still
interested . Dennis

My question is - what's the catch?

A 97 6spd with 40K miles should go for about $30K And from the pictures that were listed on line yesterday there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. And the body is in Mint condition.

Get a plane ticket.

SlowWhite 03-24-2004 08:48 AM

Well he's not asking for a deposit or anything according to the email.

And said the money is payable apon test drive and if everything checks out. (ie: He'll ship it here, let me test drive it, and then if everything checks out I then pay for it)

I just have a huge "RED" Flag raised cause it's to good of a deal to be true.

ps: here's the guys email if anyone else wants to ask about it.

Ok I just tried to look for this on Autotrader again but didn't find the ad.

However now there's a red one located in Germany.

if you look at the pictures though one of the cars in the back ground looks like a US license plate. or is that how the license plates look.

I thought they were long and took up most of the rear bumper?

ACRucrazy 03-24-2004 08:56 AM

Ha i emaild a dude about a 97 viper fpr 13500. he said the price was correct, but it was his bros, who just died. The car was located in South America, I thought it was a scam, so i gave up.

Good luck

BUCKY 03-24-2004 08:57 AM

$2000 definatly bogus

Run the vin

SlowWhite 03-24-2004 09:03 AM

$2000 is just the deposit to hold the car (ie: the red one) that's not the price of the car.

The black one I'm talking about, has no mention of Deposit, etc. He said he'd ship it, let me test drive, etc. And if I like it I can then pay for it.

Anycase I'm with Matt, to good to be true. But man if it is for real someone's going to get one hell of a good deal.

A while back there was a 98 Black 6spd located in New Zealand on the trader with 800whp. Full body kit, carbon fiber hood, yada yada, for 19K or something cheap like that.

SlowWhite 03-24-2004 09:23 AM

Must have been a scam. I remembered I saved the link to my email and when I clicked on it is said this car was either sold or the seller removed it.

to bad we can't report this findings to someone. Should be a law for things like this.

Shane@DBPerformance 03-24-2004 10:41 AM

There are all kinds of scams going on involving people trying to buy your car from overseas or sell you a car from overseas. Most of the time they want your bank info and often want to transfer more money than is involved in the transaction and want you to send them the remainder of the money. They just want your info so they can steal all your money. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is, and if something is worth more then a $5 then there is a good chance you might get screwed if your buying or selling it over the internet.

Blade 03-24-2004 11:05 AM

Yea, dont go for it. Number one, it is too good to be true, most people really arent that nice and want to save a penny where ever they can. Number 2, That definetly isnt Germany. Like said before, the agriculture isnt German, and the plates are US. European plates are about 15-18'' I think. Well, its just my .02, but i say dont go for it.

SlowWhite 03-24-2004 02:29 PM

I don't have any money for a new car anyways. I just was surfing the web and came across it.

Blk96Eclipse 03-24-2004 05:09 PM

are you keeping the GSX Barton?

-GSX-Falcon 03-24-2004 05:58 PM

Maybe im stupid. If the car was from overseas wouldnt the mileage be in "Kilometers" and not in "Miles"? The pic cleary shows miles.

CVD 03-24-2004 06:04 PM

I'm sure that all they are really after is the $2000 deposite. Its just some quick easy cash for them.

That supra is almost certainly stateside.
