Computer Help
Computer:
Dell Latitude D500 Notebook I noticed the thing gets pretty hot when on for a long time. Then I noticed that the fan was not working. So i ordered a fan and put it in. Before putting it in the computer worked fine, a little slow but worked. Im done putting the fan in and now the thing doesnt boot up. The computer turns on and the DELL screen pops up and the load bar goes to the end and then a blank screen pops up with a blinking curser at the top left corner. And now the computer just beeped at me and now says "Hard disk read failure- No bootable device--strike F1 to retry boot. F2 for setup utility" What the heck. I know i did remove the hard drive does that matter? Did it whipe out all the memory or something? Thanks in advance for your help |
Re: Computer Help
Did you put in a fan of the same wattage? You might be over working your power supply, or the power supply might be shot which is why your fan didnt work.

Re: Computer Help
I just went into the boot menu and selected Diagnostic and everything passed.
Really i dont know what Im doing just playing around with the different options I have right now |
Re: Computer Help
Make sure the hard drive cable is connected properly, and seated to whatever part of the board its supposed to be connected to. Unplug it and replug it in, make sure there's no bent pins or anything.

Re: Computer Help
It was a brand new one that was the exact same.
The computer worked before tho thats what i dont get |
Re: Computer Help
The harddrive slides into the side and I took it out and put it back in once already. Ill try it again...

Re: Computer Help
I mean your 100% sure its the same?
Try unplugging the fan, and booting and see if it will boot. If it does, then chances are your power supply bit the dust which is why your fan stopped working in the first place. Otherwise, I dunno. |
Re: Computer Help
Problem fixed!
Put in the windows start up cd and started it and it started right up. Now it starts without it. Kinda weird but it's fixed now!! |
