Re: Tax breaks for new car buyers
Meanwhile, our lovely state goes back to the 1.25% x MSRP registration tax. F#$%ers! I was looking at buying a new car until I found that out.

Re: Tax breaks for new car buyers
Paying by the size of your vehicle just makes more sense to me, and gives people somewhat of an incentive to buy more economical vehicles that use a bit less fuel and take up less space on the roads. Every other country I've been to works that way. Just my opinion on the matter.

I like how you are thinking but typically the larger vehicles are more expensive anyhow. From an enviornmental standpoint, taxes should go up with the age of the car as a new car has less of an impact than an older car. But at the same time, the people who drive older cars typically do as they cannot afford a newer car, thus aren't able to pay a higher tax (ability to pay from above). I think that MN should allow hybrids to drive in the HOV lanes to encourage better fuel economy. It wouldn't cost the state much and would help encourage cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicles. |
