95 TSI project questions

I’m starting to fix up my 1995 TSI AWD that has been sitting for 2 years after the clutch went out and I neglected it because I was focusing on my 04 STi.

The car will need a new front bumper and head lights.

I was considering getting a body kit I know that it’s very unpopular but think about how unattractive the 95 Tsi front facia is compared to the 97+ mitsu. And I would like to get the projector style headlights.

IF I but a body kit for a 97+ eclipse/ talon AND projector style headlights for 97+ will they work with my 95 Talon hood, fenders and how will it bolt on?

Any suggestions?

95 TSi Compression

I’m starting to fix up my 1995 TSI AWD that has been sitting for 2 years after the clutch went out and I neglected it because I was focusing on my 04 STi.

Before I start to put $ into it I know I want to check the compression and timing. I’m currently in Iraq and want to get this all going when I get home. I’m told it’s a 6-bolt, that it has a coolant leak, a boost leak and will need a new turbo. I love DSMs but am I getting in over my head? What else should I have inspected on the car before starting to fix things?

Any suggestions?

95 TSI turbo and fmic questions

I had 315awhp on my sti (tuned at DB) but ended up with a hole in my piston so I want to keep it around stock #’s and boost but I want a fmic. Any ideas on a decent turbo under $600? Used? YES OR NO? and how about a FMIC and piping?

Any suggestions?

Re: 95 TSI body work

I'm not sure but I thought you just needed to switch lights and the bumper to 97+
If you do go with a body kit don't buy cheap, I had fitment issues with mine now I'm back loving the stock look. As long as the body kit is 97+ you shouldn't have any problems. You drill holes into the body kit to match your holes on the car.

95 TSi Suspension problems

I’m starting to fix up my 1995 TSI AWD that has been sitting for 2 years after the clutch went out and I neglected it because I was focusing on my 04 STi.

The last time I drove it, it was very rocky and actually a scary ride past 80mph. I’ve buried the needed in my 04 sti so it wasn’t the speed. I think I’m going to need some suspension work done. What is the cheapest way to fix this problem? How much am I looking on speeding on parts and any one that will help with the work for beer pizza and $50?

Do it for a veteran? Lol jk

Any suggestions?

95 TSI brake questions?

I KNOWWW the car will need new rotors and pads, idk about lines. What is the cheapest way to upgrade my brakes? I’m not looking for (B)rembos although I loved them on the STi but I don’t want crap parts.

Any suggestions?

Re: 95 TSI project questions

Yea if you get a 97+ bumper just get the lights to match, they'll both bolt right up, don't worry about the hood or fenders.

MAP is trying to clear out some of their DSM powerslot rotors I think, I'd go with those.

As for a suspension setup, I may have my Tokico HP setup for sale soon, probably looking at a $200 range.

Thaks for the merge!!
$200 would be great for the suspension! what condition is it in? how much use could i expect from it?

Ive spent a lot of $ at Map so ill have to look into the ps rotors how about pads?

any one that could do a compression check and timing check for me for a decient price?

I'm not sure how good this site is www.bodykits.com if you decide to buy from them email with questions about fitment, durability, quality of a specific product.

Also you can find some good projector headlights on ebay for around 150 shipped.

here's a picture of mine

MAP or DB should be able to take care of that fairly quickly/cheaply for you. Since you live in Big Lake, DB would be closer since they're in Rogers.

Re: 95 TSI project questions

You should be able to check compression and base timing yourself. Vfaq.com or www.plymouthlaser.com are good references to show you how to do it yourself

Re: 95 TSI project questions

You could buy a timing light and compression tester for under $50 probably.

As for my suspension, it's in great condition but I'm switching to coilovers. If I don't like the ride I'm switching back, but we'll see after I get it installed. It lowers about 1.7", you can see a bigger picture in my profile. They have about 10k miles on them over the past 18 months.

Re: 95 TSI project questions

The 1st thing i have to do is get it running. Then ill do all the other stuff. where should i have the clutch put on? or is there any one on here that could do it for a good price?

asshanson 01-30-2009 03:51 PM

Re: 95 TSI project questions

There are some people on the board that do side work, yea. When you're changing the clutch be sure to verify that you have a 6 bolt motor. I guess there are other ways but it's easy when you're staring at the flywheel.

Re: 95 TSI project questions

If you're good at being creative, ebay fmic kits are very inexpensive, but they take a little work to make them fit. Ebay fmic's are not terrible either, they be more than enough if you're not planning on putting up huge HP.

Re: 95 TSI project questions

stupid ?. besides a bolt. lol jk whats the differance between a 6 and 7 bolt?

asshanson 01-30-2009 06:00 PM

Re: 95 TSI project questions

6 bolt motors came on 92 and earlier dsms, the early 2g 7 bolt blocks sometimes have crankwalk issues. But there really aren't many differences.

BTW, it's the number of bolts holding the flywheel on.
