fastest/smoothest way to Aiken??

I need to get up there tomorrow for a friends moms funeral.

Considering the weather, etc, what's the fastest/smoothest route?

and thanks!

I suggest a hyperbolic trajectory.

There are no suggested traveling routes from Minne-snowta to Aiken.

*Drive safe

Assuming you are coming from the Minneapolis-area take 94 west out to Rogers then take 101 north which turns into 169 and heads straight to Aitkin. A few of us drove through Aitkin on Sat and Sun and the roads were in pretty good shape yesterday afternoon.

Yah, I'll be leaving from 100 and 394 at about 6 AM right into the teeth of tonights storm.

The 'clipse stays home. The Liberty is going to make this trip. along with my snowmobile gear, some water, and energy bars.

All I know is the old joke that if you want Emily, you're going to get to Aiken before you get to Remer........

I'd probably take 394 to 494 and head north to 94. You won't have traffic to worry about at 6am so it should be smooth sailing for you.

You could also head up 47 the whole way but 169 would be a little quicker.

47 is a nicer drive during the summer but slower and definitely less traveled so its probably not a good choice for winter.

Cmon, he's driving a Jeep and bringing a sled... I'd take the longest way just have more fun getting there.

Driving a Jeep isn't fun; get there faster so he can have fun on the sled sooner :D

Just got back from the thunder run to Aiken and back.

On the road at 0630, 30 mins for breakfast in Milaca at 0830, in Aiken at 1000 for the 1100 funeral. 100/694/94 was moving at 30 mph up to Rodgers. Wasn't able to speed up to 50 until after Elk River on 169.

Back on the road at 1 PM, home at 4 PM. Drove 70+ most of the way home.

Nothing much to report other than the drive back was a lot faster than the way up. There are already loads of ice house on the big lake and plenty of snow for the sleds. The casino parking lots wre full (duh!) and gas appeared to be $1.70 a gallon on average. I did see diesel for $1.99/gallon at three stations.

The Patriot got 24 mpg with full-time AWD locked in on the way up and part-time AWD on the way back. KQ came in loud and clear up to Garrison. Sirius radio worked fine after that.

Boring trip. Sad for my friend (her mom) but still boring.
