How to get ice off my car?

Well I just went outside and my car is FULL of ice. Almost a quarter of an inch thick. I was gonna just get in it and let it run for awhile with the heat on to melt off some of the ice, but then of course my key wont work now either. I tried heating up my key with the stove and ran out and tried it but it still didnt work. I really don't have that much stuff to use cause i'm at my apartment in illinios and I don't have any of that de-icer stuff either. What's the best way to get the ice off and get in my own damn car??

Have you tried getting through the hatch? It's happened to me before my doors freezing up ended up going through the hatch.

Yup, I had to crawl in the hatch on my 2G a few times. It sucks, but better than being stuck outside the car :D

After that, just start it and blast the heat.

Yeah I tried that too! The problem is, is that the key only works on the passenger door. Never even tried it in hatch either. By the way this is the car that I just picked up from Joe M. Real good guy to deal with. I think I'm gonna go heat up the key some more and try it a couple more times.. I was thinking of pouring hot water on the handle but that would just end up freezing it even more.

Mine was full of ice last night. Ended up driving it to the target parking ramp downtown which is heated. By the time I was done shopping, it was all nice and melty. haha

Dont heat the key, you'll end up snapping it off in the door. Get a mini torch and heat up the lock on the door. You have Ice build up on the inside of your lock a little heat will get you in.

Yeah, my tough is pretty warm. That should work right? Haha. Well I just got it open anyways.. I got a pot and filled it up with hot water like 5 times and dumped it on the door. Then the key finally turned but only in the lock position. So one of my friend's came over and we pounded on it for awhile and it finally unlocked. Then getting the door open was another story, but all in all we got it done. Haha

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest the hot water trick.

I had to pry my door open yesterday. Not fun.

Insert the key in the drivers door, start turning it CLOCKWISE, with a couple pounds of turning force, start wiggling the key up and down, first a little, while applying force in a clockwise direction, wiggle up and down more and more until it turns.

Works like a charm on a 1990 talon last night, covered in ice, worn out key, looks smooth.
