I need some help with AEM
Ok, installed the wideband and started 'er up. The thing was pig rich, off the meter. So I leaned out about 8-10 boxes all by 10 "points" and the idle jumped from about 750 to 1300, haha. Guess I need to adjust the throttle plate some.
Anyway, my main concern is the coolant temp sensor. It's a GM unit, the AEM read 207 degrees by the time I shut it off. Is there a calibration that needs to be done? I did the wizard thing where you select what sensors you're using, and it was the only GM one there. Thermostat is a stock temp unit at 195. Any tips? just let it do it's thing and make sure it doesn't go over 210 or 215? Or get a lower temp stat? |

DSMlink FTW!

Re: I need some help with AEM
I could have used mitsu stuff, but why downgrade from conquest parts to dsm parts? ;)

Re: I need some help with AEM
I'd see how hot it actually starts getting, then make sure you don't have any cooling system issues afterwards. You only have a 5v signal going to the temp sensor, right?

Re: I need some help with AEM
Yeha, I might actually be retarded. I haven't driven the car in 2 years, and I think in that time I've forgotten basic car stuff, its possible it's a 210 degree stat, it's a stock replacement one, so could be, I'll look up what stock is.
Anyway, as for the AEM, it turned red at like 160, so it doesn't know where the threshold is for "too hot". I need to change that for sure. It's a 5 volt signal sent by the AEM, yeah. |
Re: I need some help with AEM
just checked, OE spec is supposed to be 192 I believe.

Re: I need some help with AEM
You are probably too lean for the lower cells, I had that problem when I first started with the AEM too. I wasn't able to get the idle down, then I would lean it out and it still wouldn't go down. I actually needed to make it richer.

Re: I need some help with AEM
Double post.

Re: I need some help with AEM
I did the opposite, it was super rich, then I leaned it out and it read 10.5 afr. still really rich, I think more than that is unreasonable. I suppose I could be wrong.

Re: I need some help with AEM
Most car will run around 205-210. GM's cooling fans will turn on at about 221-227 with the guage at 210 on the dash.

Re: I need some help with AEM
ok, so I tried leaning it out at idle, but it didn't want to rev cleanly, it would hiccup and appeard to be going very lean. I richened it up again and it revved clean, but I'm sure it could be leaner. I messed with the accell dTPS table a bit, raised the line up a bunch, and that seemed to help. Are most of the throttle tip-in adjustments done in the main fuel window or auxiliary windows like the dTPS or others?

Re: I need some help with AEM
Have you tried looking on teh AEM forums for help?

Re: I need some help with AEM
I don't read forums, forums read me.

Re: I need some help with AEM
My MS2 uses a GM cooling sensor and it is usually in the 200
I wouldn't worry about it until it goes up to 220 or something like that. My stock coolent temp sensor for the dash is still plugged in and it reads normal at 200 How I tuned my idle is: Shut off all enrichments and things that would modify the Base fuel map accel, decel fuel, coolant correction, off idle performance, idle fuel, air temp enrichment *just to add, the reason why it is bucking is probably because of your accel fuel enrichment isn't high or low enough but forget this right now. Turn up your idle screw a couple of turns (this will prevent it from dying out at idle and warms up the car pretty fast) warmed up your car so it is at operating temps. Then tuned the base fuel map idle by ear Reason of not using your WB is depending on your cam, you may need to run richer then 14.7 I know I had to change my base tune when I installed my 272 I think mine is at 14.0-13.5 and runs just fine like that *Also at Idle I have the computer look at the throttle Position because with the bigger cam, I loose vacuum at idle which throws off my MAP sensor. *My accel enrichment is a blend of MAP reading and TPS reading but again all of that is shut off when tuning just the base fuel map Next you have to dial in your base map which means no hard pulls. Just running the car up the RPM little by little to dial in the Fuel map. This is where you would use the O2 sensor. I don't know what AEM has but MS2 has megalog which is a program that will help you dial in the base fuel map. Really helpful To make it short. Once you have the fuel map set, you can leave it and never have to change it again unless you mod the car with something else. After the fuel map is dialed in, you can change your enrichments Tuning becomes addicting once you figure out how to. There is a steep learning curve however What are you using for spark output? |
Re: I need some help with AEM
dsm coil pack. I want to learn how to tune, but I might need some lessons from a pro before I'd feel confident.
