i went to the hastings one last weekend. i got my 4 new tires mounted, balanced and new valve stems for $54. thats about $13 a tire. tires plus wanted $23 per tire and goodyear wanted $28 per tire!

I've talked to techs who have worked at Wal-Mart in the auto service center before... Heard so much shady crap from there I'd be very afraid to have anything done there.

Enes 03-16-2004 11:04 AM

ok, wow, you better not be going over 55mph that those tires are rated at

And also make sure you don't corner hard you just might take off flying, those must be some high quality tires :)

Walmart scares me.

AJ 03-16-2004 11:10 AM

Those of you who know 1BADGSX from Iowa (Jeremy with a red 99 GSX) used to have a NT Stealth before the Eclipse and get used to work at Walmart. He had his tires mounted at a differant walmart and on the drive home his tire fell off on the highay at 65+ mph.

So yeah, Walmart kicks ass. I will buy some boxers and sock there, but I will leave the car shit to those who know it.

jd1828 03-16-2004 12:21 PM

i didnt get the tires there. i ordered them from tire rack. i even watched the guy mount and balance them. just to make sure he was doing it right and he did. so if you want to pay $100+ for the same exact service thats your choice. every repair place does some shady stuff. thats why you stand there and watch them. i havent had any problems with them. i had it up to 120mph on the way home from casino a few days ago.

Both my parents and sister have boughten tires from Walmart and had them install them. Neither has had problems. But this was in a small town where you actually still have honest and good employees.

CVD 03-16-2004 07:39 PM

They have machines to do most of it for them...a monkey could be taught to install a tire. Some people are just lazy and half assed no matter where you go.

so in actuality the tires were somewhere in the 100-200 dollar range?

you gotta get the work done for free, i worked at cadillac and had one fo the guys do it after work. took a couple minutes. plus they were ballanced and everything.

MATCHBX 03-16-2004 09:58 PM

Most places charge $10-15 per tire to mount and balance them. It's the tires themselves that cost the money. I go to some of the larger tire places because I also get the road hazard to go with them. With as many miles as I drive being involved with organizing rallys, I need to have that little extra insurance.

So the service that you got was no different than anywhere else as far as price.

Im with ya, walmart kicks ass, my friend works there, we got the warranty, bought a set of shit tires, roasted them til they blew, got new ones, went home. Thats the shad side of walmart. As for qualty, if you buy an Xbox or PS2 from Best Buy compared to Walmart it is still the same product. So if you buy shit you get shit and if you buy quality lets damn hope you get qualty, no matter where you go.

THE ONLY THING WALMART HAS GOING FOR IT IS THE FACT THAT SOME ARE OPEN 24-7.

OH, I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH ME WORK ON THERE CAR. IT IS POSSIBLE TO TRUST SOMEONE. IF YOUR FREAKED OUT ABOUT A TECH WORKING ON YOUR. TAKE A MOMENT AND VISIT, GET TO KNOW THEM A LITTLE. THAN GIVE THEM ROOM TO WORK. IF YOU SIT THERE AND WATCH THEM THE WHOLE TIME THEY THINK YOUR AN ASSHOLE. JUST AN OPINION.-A

I love Decorah :bounce:

And Wal-Mart still sucks.

Shop at Target

Get your car shit done elsewhere

A//// Guy 03-17-2004 11:01 AM

A-lo- turn your caps off. Unless you like to yell alot... ;)

I like to watch people work on my car... I dont really care what they think, I am overprotective especially when I go to tires plus to change a tire and they cant put the car in reverse... grind grind.... Now I just take the tire in by itself.

a-lo 03-17-2004 12:10 PM

understandable, sorry about the caps thing. some it up to 3am laziness.

jd1828 03-17-2004 01:29 PM

i ordered the tires from tire rack $81 each. in most towns you can get tires mounted and balanced for around $12 each. if you live in the cottage grove/ woodbury area it can cost anywhere from $15-28 (im assuming its like this in most of the suburbs). i thought i would let people know because spring is on its way and im sure someone has some new summer tire that need to go on. if you think walmart sucks thats fine with me. for most stuff they do suck. the only thing i ever buy there is movies, games and oil. i went there and got some great service. they did the job right and they did it cheap.

i watch people work on my car because im the only person that really cares if its done correctly. im sure there are some great mechanics out there that really care if it done the right way but from my experiences there are very few of them. i just took my car to goodyear for an alignment. i had to come in 3 times for them to get it right.

illz 03-18-2004 04:20 PM

um what kinda tire do you end up with when you go to walmart and pay that much? just curious

unreal808 03-18-2004 09:06 PM

I do not let anyone work on my car! I put on my tires, but I work at a shop.

BUCKY 03-18-2004 11:42 PM

I worked at a tire and lube in High school. Other than me and one other guy there everyone that worked there was stupid and had never worked on cars before. If you go there just check ther work.

On the otherhand they do have a sweet Tire Protection Plan.
