Needed: New job

Hey everyone, i am currently looking for a new job and i thought i would post it because anytime i am looking for something and i don't post it up or ask people i miss out on chances.
My work is has cut my hours from 40+ to struggling to get 30, not to mention they are fighting to keep my delivery position alive.

I currently make $12/hr, so something around that area would be great.

Thanks
Aaron

What type of job do you have now? What are you looking for?

I deliver salt for water softeners.
I am going to school for radiology so ideally a radiology assistant would be perfect or something in a clinic/hospital setting.
But to be honest i just really need to find something before i end up unemployed.

I would work on your resume a little bit more. Condense it down to one page, and cover all grammar issues. Some of the descriptions and sentences don't flow well. I would add an "objective" as well.

Maybe search online for some resume examples to get ideas?

Have you tried browsing/applying on craigslist and all job sites? (monster, hotjobs, etc)

Unemployment isn't all that bad.... Except you can't do anything.

Have you thought about walking into a hospital and asking for their HR department? If you are set on radiology, why not just do that, make yourself known.

If you weren't sure as to what you wanted, I wouldn't recommend that, per se, but you might give it a shot.

If you are willing to drive down to mendota heights, I might be able to get you a job working doing tech support.

^+1 Spend a bit more time on the resume and get it down to one page. I would get rid of the "skills" section and make it course work completed (assuming you have taken some classes related to radiology or the medical field).

One grammar hint: I tried to email you but it didn't work???

Re: Needed: New job

Regarding your resume; remove the irrelevant jobs/info from it and condense down to one page. Unless you are a doctor, lawyer, or some high $$$ executive a resume should always be only 1 page. Also, remove the fancy bubbles and designs and put it in simple black & white Microsoft Word text so a scanner can easily recognize all the characters and also so it can easily be copy/pasted into a text upload box. There are a lot of companies that will toss a resume straight into the trash can if their scanner can't read it. I was taught that unless you're applying for a creative/marketing position your resume should look as boring as possible to not distract anyone from the material, now, with that said, there is nothing wrong with using a nice high quality resume paper if you're actually sending a physical copy in. Your military experience should be moved up near the top with education. With your Army postal experience why not apply for a job with USPS, UPS, etc.?

Re: Needed: New job

Some CC for your resume...

- Sign up for another gmail account that is more "professional". Use yourname@gmail for example.

- In your work experience, you don't want to list only what your responsibities were. The first point or two should be an accomplishment. While its not ok to lie, its ok to "exaggerate". For your current job, say something about increasing on-time deliveries by 20%. Do that for every job. Employers can usually tell by the job title what your responsibilities were... but they want to see what sets you apart from the rest.

- Decrease your font size to sum up your resume into one page.

- I would add a simple, concise, one sentence goal at the top. Then list your skills, then employment. School can be at the bottom of the page.

- Change your job titles to sound more important. "Driver" and "Parts Tech" aren't all that great. Pad them up.

- Get rid of the references. If they want them, they will ask for them.

Right now i am just starting to get applications out so yeah.

Puff, i haven't done that yet, but its the next best thing i can do rather than waiting for positions to become available.

Make your email account more professional. Something like MrJBrown@gmail or something. Use it as a personal email account from now on.

Re: Needed: New job

I totally agree on the resume suggestions; if I get a resume that is more than one page and it not laid out it a basic but profressional format it doesn't even make the short list. As far as the grammar; if I get 1/4 of the way into it and there is a obvious mistake it goes in the trash. Getting a lot of information onto one page while still making it understandable shows creativity.
