Twin disk clutch's
I know a few of you guys are running twin disk clutch setup's. What do you have to say about them?
As DSM fate would have it I discovered my base timing was about 10 degrees retarded the day after I sold my new spare clutch. Now with the proper base timing as soon as I hit boost its slipping clutch time. I'm trying to decide between saving up for some sort of twin disk setup, or going with a 2900 and sprung 6 puck. |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
Almost anybody will prefer the twin disk over the 2900 anyday. I was gonna go with a act 2900 on my next build til I searched about the 2. The twin disk is a FAR better clutch when compared IMO.

Re: Twin disk clutch's
What do you have?
|
Re: Twin disk clutch's
Yes but the price is completely diff.
Lucas there is a ton of info on the PTT twin disks, from my limited search they seem to be preferred. |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
I run the 2600 right now. But like I said, I will be putting the extra money down for the PTT on my next build.

Re: Twin disk clutch's
I realize there is much info on every possible DSM clutch set up floating around the web. I know a few on here are running the QM/PTT twin. I was looking for first hand accounts from people that have switched from a beefy single set up to a twin.

Re: Twin disk clutch's
Yes, several of us run them. The pedal pressure is awesome, and if you do a few upgrades you can make it pretty easy to drive on the street. The bigger slave cylinder helps a lot. It is super light, so you need to pay attention a bit more on take off, but it isn't horrible. I prefer the twin disk over a 2900 with a full disk. Just make sure you get it installed right the first time :D

Re: Twin disk clutch's
Yeah, I'll second Jet on that. I bought a used QM with no instructions and I put one of the discs on backwards(their website directions are wrong), big mistake. Now it's rebuilt by PTT with their TOB and a 2G slave. Coming from a ACT 3100, this was a big improvement, but it does make some noise and drives like a typical non-sprung hub clutch. Engagement isn't bad and the pedal pressure is nothing, but you're always aware your driving a race clutch on the street. I'm definitely not looking back.

Re: Twin disk clutch's
x3 on this. I love mine. just make sure to get it in right the first time there was no instructions with mine. Also get the auto spacer so the flywheel will not come lose. I know all of us have had that problem. The stock tob sucked on it so I got the PTT tob now and it is 100 times better. I just use the stock evo III (2d dsm) slave and pedal press is really light. it is less than the wifes talon with a act 2100. the car is a d.d. and you get use to it in stop and go really fast. It does make noise like a alt belt that is loose. I will be putting the same on in the spyder also. I came from a 2900 in the evo and it was slipping and going bad for 6month

Re: Twin disk clutch's
So PTT twin disks are what you guys are all running? or would recommend?
This is awesome. Also why/when would a person want to switch to a twin disk from a single. |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
I am running a Q.M. clutch with the PTT tob.
I did it because I blew out the 2900 and did not want to buy a std clutch for the evo a 2nd time |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
thanks for the info guys. Guess its time to start the twin disk savings fund.
I was reading last night on the dsm link forums about using the 2G clutch slave cylinder to improve pedal travel/feel. Any of you tried that? |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
Don't some people also put in the stock 2g accumulator to soften the pedal engagement?

LOL, good point! :)
I'd like to use an excuse like "I was drunk, or something" but I was at work. Ha |
Re: Twin disk clutch's
The accumulator idea is floating around right now, apparently some are having good luck with it. I'll wait til everybody is doing it.
