Not that I know anything about asteroids but would the WHOLE earth get covered in flames? That seems a little exagerated. Pretty sweet vid though!

Well if the mass of the asteroid was large enough moving X amound of mph or however you would measure the speed of the thing wouldn't it just basically hit earth and drive itself right into it? Like "into" it? Basically make one huge volcano I guess. Kind of interesting thing to think about though, Lets hope nothing like this would ever cross our path. I'm sure they would know a few hundred thousand years in advance one would think.

Theoretically, that could happen in our lifetime. Thre's millions of earth-orbit crossing asteroids that we don't even know about. Granted most probably aren't as bug as that, but there are alot of them that could do alot of damage.

I would imagine the flames would engulf the world. Your thinking on small scale terms. This is a very very large scale event. Larger than most can really think of in any sort of terms. I mean one volcano can release a pyroclastic cloud that travels for miles. Now times that volcano by like 10000 and you already covered the earth. Personally I think it would almost rip the earth apart. That big of a shock wave rolling thru the mantel would have to bust the crust up other places too, and more than likely knock us out of our current orbit.

The earthquake that caused the big tsunami a while ago was said to have released so much energy that it affected the Earth's rotation, but it was something like only a thousandth of a second or so.

I hope it doesn't start on fire like that. I'd be cool with a bunch of rocks and shit like that, maybe some zombies, maybe even a few Critters as well.

The friction heat generated with something that large tearing into the atmosphere could probably heat the air/atmosphere enough to ignite most things and spreading fire beyond just the immediate fire and magma of the direct crash site. Most forest fires can jump and spread just from the heat alone and not just direct embers or flames. And then there is the raining fire rocks spreading and crashing down as shown. It seems reasonable given the scale of the model shown.
