Car will not stay running.

Ok so heres the deal driving home from work my car started to suppder and the RPMs were droping then the car died. At first i was thinking i may have been out of gas because i knew i was low and thinking maybe my gauge was messed up. A highway helper stoped and gave me some gas and still nothing it would start and then idle for a sec then die. I got out looked over all the pipes and wires i could see (at 3am on the highway) and it seemed to be that everything was hooked up. Then after 10-15 mins i tryed it again for shits and giggles and it started i figured im gonna go for it and took of. made it about a mile where it started to hesatate and suppder then die. pushed the car to a gas station filled it all the way up just to make sure it wasnt a gas issue. Let it sit again and tryed to start it. Same thing it would start the idle would level out at about 800-1000 and then die, then i tryed to give it gas after it started but all that did was kick the rpm up and then die.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

Sounds like a dead or dying fuel pump to me! What pump do you have, and how old is it?

Sounds like my car when the fuel pump wiring just started to go out. It happened on the day of the cruise to Duluth so I had to get a ride. Then randomly it started working again.

Take off the fuel pump cover and see if you can hear the pump running.

also you may want to make sure the injector plugs are tightly in, and the MAF plug is pushed in all the way.

Replace your pump. Driving that low on gas is terrible for a fuel pump, and WILL kill them... The fuel in the tank actually cools and lubricates the pump, and when it's low, it's like running an engine low on coolant, and running a car till it runs out of gas is even worse. No fuel going through the pump= no lubrication

Check on your fuel pressure regulator also? It does sound like a pump issue, but there are other things to check for.

MMMk the car has been sitting since friday morining and i went out today and started it and it fired right up. Went for a spin and it ran fine? Maybe the pump is stating to go and it was over heating or somthing the other night from being so low on gas.

Yup, that is for sure the problem. Upgrade to Walbro and crank up that boost ;)

This is exactly how mine was acting. Some days it would work, then randomly it would fail for a little while and then work again. I replaced the fuel pump and the problem persisted. Occasionally the pump wasn't getting power and it was a wiring problem, I wouldn't rule this out.

time to fully rewire and put in a walbro

cam and/or crank sensors going, they can get pretty bad when heated up.

Re: Car will not stay running.

Dude, he said he ran almost out of gas. That is the best way to fry a fuel pump. A simple upgrade to a walbro will be fine, no way it's the CAS given the info provided.

PS--no rewire needed IMHO, unless you're running out of injector, but you were only on the stock pump before anyways, so chances are you're fine.

He also said that after sitting for a while everything ran just fine, no probs.
