I picked up a speeding ticket today on the way back up to duluth. I'm guilty as sin, hit a major speed trap, 1 cop gunning and a couple others takin off handing out tickets, and was caught at 87mph. They gave it to me for 84 so i hit a lower price bracket since i was so helpful and kind. My question to all of you is, who has gone to court over a speeding ticket? I dont want to plead not guilt, like i said, i'm guilty and i deserve the ticket, but i do not want it to show on my record for insurance purposes. My insurance was finally going to drop this summer due to tickets in past, but i havent had a ticket for just about three years now and i do not want to fuck my insurance up that bad again. I called the courthouse today and talked to the prosecuter in hopes of the probation deal, she said they do not settle this outside of court, it must go to court and the judge will decide it there...stupid small courthouses. Anywho, has anyone had this experience and can give me any advice on how it will go and what i should say when i get there.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice you can give me!!

I go to court all the time, in fact i have court wed. The way it works is when you go to court you then talk to the prosecuter and try to cut a deal. the prosecuter then recomends your punishment or deal to the judge . But ultimetly it is up to the judge what happens to you.

Ask for a PBJ or stay ="that if you do not get a ticket in one year, than you no pay fine" :smoker:

PBJ = probation before judgment
I have had this befor good luck!

i did this thing in Fl. where you take a 4 hour class and they take it off your record.

Go to court! Everytime I have heard of someone going to court it has always been reduced or thrown out if you are nice and truthful. Tell the judge that you are sorry or whatever and also tell him that you haven't had a ticket in over 3 years. Alot of times I know that if they know it has been a wile since you had your last ticket that they will be nicer... I believe.

Hey Ask Tom. He's been to court more than Martha Stewart lately.

i believe pleading no contest, is admiting to it and it can not be used against you in court persay if you get a ticket a month later or so. and you get the option to talk to the DA afterwords thats how it goes in wisconsin.

first ticket i got was 94 in a 55 my mom made me plea guilty. damn it still is kicking my ass almost 3 years ago.

i wetnt o court i was going 120 in a 55 racing through downtown st paul and i went to court because the officer said i was going 80 on the ticket but i took it to court anyways and got off of the ticket it was pretty cool i just cant get another one for about 6 months now but i was so scared the officer let me off easy because he said i told him the truth about some things and didnt lye to him

pradamike 03-09-2004 03:19 PM

usually they will give u a choice whe u go u can plead guilty pay the fine and they will put u on probation for a year and u cant get another ticket and the ticket wont go on your record or else u can plead not giulty and come back another day

I went to court last year for a ticket going 85 in a 70 on 35E south. I pleaded public nuisance and got public nuisance on my record instead of the speeding ticket so it didn't jack up my insurance. The judge lowered my ticket a little bit too but I still had to pay most of it.
