Re: My new toy...
LOL @ 'mods' for a boat. My uncle has his boat he uses for barefooting modded to the gills too, looks nice!

Looks pretty clean!

Re: My new toy...
The guy that I got it from is very anal about everything he owns, which I am happy about seeing this boat is from '86, you sure wouldnt know it from looking at it. (In person)
My uncle use to have one about 5 years ago with only a 150hp Merc on it. When he would slam the throttle down, the nose would "wheelie" and you would be looking straight at the sky. It was pretty sweet. This boat should do that no problem. Also, the guy I got it from maxed the speedo out at 90mph with the 26 pitch prop @ 6000rpm. Redline is 7500. Should be fun! :D |
Re: My new toy...
sounds like it will be really fun or hurt really bad

Re: My new toy...
Looks like it's tearing ass just sitting there.
Pull it with the DSM! |

Re: My new toy...
Thanks guys, its turning out better than I expected and after a few days with it I am more than happy with my purchase.
The boat was far from finished and I knew this when I got it. The following things I've done so far were all included with the boat, just needed to be completed in order for it to be how it was intended. Trailer lights and wiring I installed, all brand new included with the sale along with new wood planks along the trailer, including a lifetime registration sticker. Brand new throttle cable and Hot foot Throttle pedal installed and is pretty sweet as I can rev the boat just like you would rev a car. Rebuilt the Jack Plate pump as that was not in working order when I got the boat. The hydraulic fluid was in rough shape so I decided to just replace all the seals as well instead of having it break later. All parts supplied and works flawlessly now. Ran the boat in the parking lot (with water coupler and hose) yesterday for about 5mins until the temp alarm went off stating it was not getting any water and about to overheat. Pulled the lower unit off and the water pump wasnt pretty. The owner of the boat said it was replaced before he last used the boat. Understandable and I wanted to replace it anyways seeing its a big part of keeping the motor running good, so I ordered it up and the guy ended up buying it for me, never even asked. It will be here tomorrow. Steering needed some work, the cables were froze up which I knew before I got it. Found out they are discontinued, so I ordered a brand new steering setup today. Its a dual cable setup rated up to 300hp, so I'll be good for awhile on that. Comes with new cables and steering column. Will be here Tuesday and supposedly its better than the one I already had so that makes me happy. It better for $325. Woohoo my first mod! Damn thing is almost like a DSM. Hasnt left me stranded yet, knock on wood. Now I just need to get a gauge type depth finder to match the other gauges and mount in the dash and I'll be set. More pictures and vids coming Tuesday when the steering gets here! :D |

Nice toy, hope it doesn't cost you too much to get it in fully operable condition. |
Re: My new toy...

Sound's pretty good!!!

Re: My new toy...
What's the displacement on that motor?
|
Re: My new toy...
That looks pretty sweet. I would consider a racing suit to run it. Aproaching 100 on the water is a little nuts!

Re: My new toy...
Saw ya runnin it the other night. Looks like a lot of fun!

Re: My new toy...
Revving the motor on a hose isn't the best idea as the hose can't provide enough water at higher RPM's... just a thought. Looks like a fun little toy- Of course until a 50 foot yacht plows up a 4 foot wake for you when you are doing 70. :D
Maybe we'll see you out on the water! |
Re: My new toy...
Kevin its a 2.5L...
Jed, I wasnt reving it much over 2k. At idle I was seeing 3-4psi of water and around 2k I was sitting at 7-8psi, so the hose was plenty fine. Basically just testing the water pump before I get out on the river and strand myself. Steering cables came in yesterday instead of today which was a bonus. Got them installed last night and decided it would be fun to take it out at 8:30pm. Got the boat unloaded by 8:50pm and took a quick 10 min cruise only because the bugs were so bad. The boats amazing for power and its very comfortable to cruise in. I figured it would be rough but it rides very smooth. Although it was pretty late, the river was still kind of rough, I'd love to see how this thing goes on a smooth/glass-like lake. |
Re: My new toy...
Mini launch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv0I9daMLNo Didnt know she was going to take a video or I would have trimmed the motor up more to get the front end up higher. I'll have to get a better vid with the 23 pitch prop. This was with the 27 pitch prop. Spent the whole weekend on the river for a family reunion and really got a handle on the boat now. Swapped out props, messed with trim and the jack plate. So far she cruises good at 85mph @ 5500rpm on the 27 pitch prop with minimal chine walk. I dont see going any faster as shit goes by pretty fast at that speed on the water, that and there are no "brakes"! Plus gas really isnt cheap and it likes to eat a lot of it. 18 gallons of premium 93 octane can last about 2-3hrs if I am really pounding on it. Just cruising and putting around I can make it last all day. |
