110 MPG Mustang!

Saw this on MSNBC this morning and thought everyone here would be interested to see this one.

http://www.nbc6.net/automotive/16768...s=ami&psp=news

I like the quote "It's still a rod-and-piston engine; it just has a lot more electronics on it."

What you guys think?

hope this in the correct section.

Wrong section, moved to here.

Of course, no details. I've got an idea what some of them are though. Maybe we should go for the highest mileage DSM here and see who gets it.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

The fact that he's refused to let anyone get a look under the hood makes me think BS.

I've seen some of these DSM guys claim over 40 MPG. I figure a tiny engine, high octane and a big turbo that lags like a son of a bitch is the key to great mileage and power.

I like how they dont tell us how tey do it, but o well looks like a winner

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

Well from what the guy said on the news. The reason he did not lift the hood was because there is to many electronic devices that have not been patented on the car. So i guess he could just be being cautious about it and may want to make a good chunk of change out of it. My thoughts about that is because i would probably do the same thing if i had a product that was revolutionary and was not in a patented form yet.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

if it were true and has made it to the news. then all the major companies would snatch that up in a heartbeat. they would pay him to patent it and have that product. I hate to be skeptical but i am, especially out of a pony

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

If he had a great secret and wanted to patent the idea he would do all that BEFORE talking to the media and bragging about it.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

Maybe he already applied for the patent, just waiting for it to go through. I would say it is possible, we have come a long ways in the last century. Their are alot of things now days that are possible that no one ever though could be possible 20 years ago. If I were him I would watch my back, their is probably a big red bullseye on it now!

It says he's waiting for patents, and he also said 500mpg might be possible!!!

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

110 mpg maybe. 500? Come on. Some other energy/drive source would have to be being used along side the I.C.E. At least he is going for the X-prize where they can research and verify it in order to win it.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

ya isnt the winner just have to get a car to 100mpg and they get like 1million or something?

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

This story still sounds like BS to me. Hard to believe that some Mustang smuck found a way to quadruple the gas mileage in a car. Something hundreds of engineers at all the auto companies couldn't figure out. Where is the BS flag.

The Xprize is supposed to give out 10million to the winner.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

When it runs out of power from the dylithium crystals it only get 18mpg.
The BS flag is flying half mast for this one. Of course what do I know it might get 210mpg.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

He said he redesinged the engine using a desing his father came up with 60 years ago. I am sure if this is real the engine looks nothing like a stock mustange engine, I've searched and it seems alot of people get high milage using a diesel hybrid engine with a turbo.
here is the news story for the mustang http://video.wnbc.com/player/?id=271843

There you go, proof it is possible Guinness World Record for fuel economy at 103.7 mpg! And I believe it was done 23years ago, think what we could do today.

Here is the xprize info http://www.edmunds.com/advice/altern...3/article.html

The guy did this with using E85 as well. Just to shoot that one out there. Thanks for finding the video for me bertrenolds5 i was looking for it but not terribly hard lol.

Re: 110 MPG Mustang!

well after reading the xprize conditions, (which the mustang if true should fall into all catagories) i guess they just dont want a check for 10 million

Obviously engineers at auto companies are not smart enough or maybe they don't actually wan't to make a more efficient vehicle that doesn't in some way make up for money lost on oil savings. Think about it, if everyone uses less oil, then oil is not so profitable unless your make money other ways, EG, electric batteries or fuel cells. Just wait, when they make production cars that get 80-100mpg gas will jump to $25 a gallon to make up for lost profit. Big oil doesn't want economical vehicles and to keep it that way they have most of or government officials in their pocket. Why then would regan roll back the CAFE standard 27.5mpg from 1986-1989, answer: the price of oil was low and greedy oil companies that controled regan had him do it to increase profit. Sh*t, I bet if we didn't have lobbyist interfearing with our govt. we would probably have 100mpg cars by now, if not more fuel efficient cars!

No prob, dragonov elite:)
