turbo upgrade help
When I was in the process of selling my '99 spyder gst I sold off my evo3 turbo. But now I've decided to keep the car and want to go with a slightly bigger turbo. I have the 50trim in mind but figure I would get some inputs before purchasing one since I don't know much about them. The HP goal I'm looking to achieve is around 350+, and happy to see the 1/4mile in low 13's maybe high 12's
The car will be daily driven to and from work but once I get it caged I'll be doing some track runs just to see what she can do. And occasionally setting the ricers around here straight that a convertible can be fast :P. Any other turbo suggestions would be great as well. I've been out of it for a bit and only know up to a 50trim :S. My mods are: '99 eclipse spyder gs-t ETS 7" street race FMIC system SSQV BOV PTE 680cc AFPR SAFC 1 walbro 190lhp 3in n1 turbo back exhaust tubular o2 housing NGK BPR7ES plugs NGK wires GM MAF-T Dejontool Intake boost gauge air/fuel gauge apexi tt southbend OFE clutch ebay short shifter underhood shifter bushings |
Re: turbo upgrade help
if your only looking to run low 13's to high 12's the e316g would have no problems getting you there. my personal opinion is I wouldn't go bigger than a 50-trim if those are the times you are looking for

Re: turbo upgrade help
my GT3582R spools like a 14b, but i have a 2.4 bottom end.
My Galant has a SC6152S and it spools very very quickly. since you are FWD (Fail Wheel Drive) you probably dont want a 16g series of turbo because it comes on too quickly, you will break traction. A slower spooling turbo would actually benifit you. Get some 272 cams and a bullseye v-trim, I was pretty impressed with how much power it made on my brother's 2.0, and he was using 550cc's A GT30R might be a good option if you are up for spending that much, my buddy is making some mad power with that turbo on his 1.8L jetta. my 2c |

You make boost at 2500rpms on a 35R on a 2.4, ya right. 4000? Yes, that's more like it! ;) Way OT though. OP, Get a 20G and call it a day! |
Re: turbo upgrade help
On my td06h 20g I made 307 to the front wheels on 19psi and it still spooled good so that would be a good choice for you. I eventually ran 33 out of it and that went very well. good luck with the traction issue. I had drag radials on the front and it still spun in first and second with 307 FWHP on my spyder but now its AWD so no worries.

Re: turbo upgrade help
I would tune the car, add drag radials and learn to drive. If those three things are accomplished you've met your goal and should be in the 13's or 12's easily.

Re: turbo upgrade help
I would agree with iceminion on the bullseye v-trim. I'm running one on my car. just installed it a few weeks ago and so far it seems like a pretty good turbo. as for how long it will last I don't know but I got it brand new for $200 from someone I know so I'm not complaining

Re: turbo upgrade help
I know I would need and tune and all that stuff but it would benefit me better if I got the bigger turbo first. Plus the car will be daily driven 2/3 of the time until I get her caged then I would take it to the tracks occasionally just to see what it does.
My car currently has a 14b off my dead 1g fwd just so it's drivable. With my evo3 sold I figure why not go slightly bigger hence why I'm looking at a 50trim. Back on topic, I've read mixed reviews between the 50trim and 20g. Most say the 50trim would be the best bet for a DD others say different. I've set my mind to get either of the 2 turbos but any more inputs on them would be great. |
Re: turbo upgrade help
Have you read up on the fp green it's around the same size as the 50 and 20g.

Re: turbo upgrade help
Talon racer, did you convert from fwd to awd? Or did you buy a new car? Also, I read about a guy trying to make a fwd traction bar that kept the front of the car from lifting keeping it on the ground better.
