Should I Trade My Car?
As some of you know I currently have my car for sale. My $18000 asking price is WAY TOO HIGH and I realize that but Im just "putting it out there".
Anyways some guy contacted me and wants to trade me a 2005 Evo 8 with 14500 miles on it. In any case I would probably say sure BUT the car has a salvage title. I checked KBB and its worth about $24000 but with salvage title probably alot lower. So what do you guys think I should do? Trade my fully build and done up car for a stock one? So in a sense downgrading. |
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
That car would have to be absolutely mint to be worth $24000.

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
KBB is good to go off of when listing YOUR car for sale, or trying to boost e-peen's. But, that shit is always overpriced.
That sounded like a too-good-to-be-true story, and turns out, it is. Could you run a Carfax on it or anything? I'd do that since it has the Salvage title. I don't know though, you put ALOT of work into that car, if it were me I'd keep it. |
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Keep It!!!

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
My initial response is to say, "Do it!" That seems like a great deal for you. I know you've put a lot of work into your car, but its still a nearly 10 year old DSM. Do you know what happened for the car to get a salvage title? Was it fixed properly and by who? Have you checked it out in person yet?

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Well it depends on what it was totaled for, most of the salvage evo's that ive seen on ebay were in a bad accident, but theres a evo on craigslist for 12000 that just needs a front and rear bumber that has a salvage title.

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
^ probably needs more than that, just bumpers wont total a car. Has frame damage or something im sure.

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
I wouldnt touch a salvaged vehicle ever, unless it was a steal and I knew exactly what happened. Also, trading your car in, they wont give you 1/4 of what you want for it.

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Def depends on the damage that caused it to be totaled, and if it was properly fixed. If all is peachy with the Evo, I would give you a BIG HELL YEA!
In case it's not obvious, I LOVE my evo, WAY more reliable than a DSM ever could dream of being, makes good power with minimal mods, and did I mention OPEN SOURCE tuning tools? $75 cable and you get AEM-like tuning ability from the stock ECU :) |
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Also, being its a salvage title, I would only trade if it was straight-up. No cash either way.
|
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
hell no! if it has a salvage title I would not buy/trade shit for it especially becuase if you ever wanted to resell it and it was a couple years older I would think you would have a hard time getting your money out of it. Don't do it!

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Just my opinion, but I think a salvaged-Evo, assuming it was fixed properly and is issue-free, is going to be worth more than any DSM.
|
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
OOh snap, +1 on that one!
|
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
I agree, as long as it was fixed well, you'd be trading for a newer, more reliable and more desirable (in terms of resale) car.

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
you should get some pics, and this guy really wants a built dsm. My buddy who bought my car and did a bunch of stuff was contacted by the same dude, but never got pictures and couldnt look at it since the car is in Nevada or something like that. If it was a trade straight up, the car was fixed properly, or if there was even cash coming your way, i'd consider it. CARFAX

Re: Should I Trade My Car?
wow, fancy a 3-5 year old car being more reliable than a 10-15 year old car.
Find out what kind of damage happened to the car and go from there. Hopefully it wasn't anything to bad. |
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
if its enough to total a 30k evo.. it was probably bad!
|
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
blue book on that car is 24k
|
Re: Should I Trade My Car?
Evo values have gone up over the past few months. Its awesome, IX GSR's with more miles than mile are selling now for a few thousand higher than I paid back in November!

Don't do it!
