Dual fuel pumps in a 2g AWD

I have a 96 Talon AWD, so the fuel sending unit is under the back seat, passenger side. This past weekend Halon and I were going to install dual 255 fuel pumps (I'm switching to e85 and 1600cc injectors), but we discovered the fuel sending unit is a bit different than on a 1g, so we decided to just install a single 255 for now.
The first picture is of the 1g assembly, taken from Halon's thread. The next two are the 2g version, you can see how there isn't a long metal tube to cut off and connect fuel hose to. Has anyone done this in a 2g without spending $$$ on a custom fabricated unit? I thought about cutting off the end where the pump mounts and welding on a small metal tube to make it look like a 1g setup, think that would work? My fuel gauge stopped working after the single 255 install, so I'll probably be taking this apart in the next week or two, hopefully by then I'll have a way to install the other pump. |

I think Full Blown in Bloomington might make a drop in unit for dual pumps for the 2Gs, but it won't be cheap. The tank design of the 2G and Evo are a pain to deal with.

Yea I saw those, that was my reference to $$$ custom units in the first post. I'll look around link for write-ups.

Why not find a piece of hose that is big enough to fit OVER that piece on top, run it to an appropriatly sized T. Then feed the two pumps into that? Curious to see how you gonna do this.
The evo one is similar, but the whole bottom section is plastic. Wondering how to do this on an evo next, possibly.... |

Use an AN bulkhead fitting, and just eliminate that socket part that the pump plugs into. As shown in my setup here

Also if you are planning on keeping the stock fuel lines, the Full Blown drop in unit has AN Fittings attached to it for running all new lines.
Sorry your gauge isn't working man. The only thing I can think of is that plastic assembly that was loose in there when we took it out, but we reattached it so I would have though it would be working better now. Maybe there's something we totally missed. Let me know if you need a hand again. |

Wow, $500 for a drop in pump holder for a 2G? I'm sure those are flying out the door. Like others have said, running AN lines and bulkhead fittings will cost you about $50 in parts, but last forever, and best of all, look cool in pictures.

I also am going to do a dual walbro setup on my 2g. This is what my single setup looks like with 6an lines

The top of the fuel pump nipple is sitting inside that AN fitting(with hose around it) and its still sits too low. I have a spare sending unit and 2 spare walbros. So soon I am going to fab my own and not spend $500 on it :) |

Quick question, what would cause fuel pressure to drop quickly after the pump turns off? It goes from 40psi down to 0psi in less than 5 seconds, and it's done this for the past couple years. When I installed the 255 last weekend I made sure the o-ring was still in good shape. I also have an aftermarket FPR. Any ideas?

Mine also doesn't hold pressure after shutting the car down, and most after market FPRs are suppose to hold like 20 psi for a few minutes correct?
I thought it was the o-ring as well but never really looked into much. |

Check the adjustment screw on the top of your AFPR. I actually put thread sealer on mine after hearing about quite a few leaking. Otherwise yeah that o-ring is a possibility.

My gauge started working after I filled the tank for the first time. What would cause this, the type of 2g tank style? I've always been confused on how those work, does it have to suck gas from one side to the other? Why did it not work after a fuel pump install?
Time 1: 2-3 gallons of fuel left, fuel pump install Time 2: 1-2 gallons of fuel left, drive home with gauge not working Time 3: full tank, gauge works fine I've read that you need almost 6 gallons for everything to work right with the siphon and everything, but why does it work when I'm below 6 gallons and driving? I also figured out a way I can make the dual pumps fit, since the T fitting is the same size as the output on the walbro pumps, I can just seal one end of the T fitting up there instead of a pump, shouldn't be too difficult. Obviously it'll fit a bit better than my sloppy picture. |

The float was probably just stuck, and the fresh tank of gas dislodged(sp?) it, so now it's reading the correct level again.

Well my fuel gauge was working fine, then on my way home last night the fuel level started dropping rapidly, I thought a line broke, then the level went up again, then down to zero. I think its an electrical issue with the main white plug, which would explain the erratic fuel pump power problems I've had the past year.
