SAFC Installation and Settings Help

I just got an SAFC I and am wondering if anyone knows where I can find directions for installation in a 2g. I looked on www.vfaq.com but they only have a diagram for 2g install for a SAFC I. That helps a little, but not quit enough. I didn’t know if anyone knew of any other web sites.

Also, once I get it installed what are some general settings I should set the SAFC to so that it is drivable, at least well enough to drive somewhere to get it tuned. I have a 16g turbo, 550cc injectors, 190 fuel pump and I think that’s really all that would affect it. So does anyone have recommendations as to what to set it at so I can drive it somewhere to get tuned?

Thanks

Did you mean you got an SAFC I and the vfaq only shows instructions for a SAFC II? or vice versa?

Use the search mang! I had the same question last summer:

Here's the thread:

Here's the diagram for hooking up an SAFC I on a 2g (courtesy of Shane):

As far as tuning, someone else will have to chime in b/c I'm not sure. All I know is that you'll have to get it tuned ASAP when you hook the SAFC I up, otherwise the car drives like poo and you may blow something.

Road Race Engineering has a writeup to get a basic tune down on the street so it is driveable to get a dyno-tune.

Haha he is going to help (aka do it for me) but it has been a long time since he has done one and never on a 2g and if he messes up I will beat his ass :D. I'm just trying to find some stuff to help him out and so I can understand more.

I have a SAFC I, and the only verbal instruction are for SAFC II and as far as I can understand they are different. I am going to try to install the SAFC and get it tuned in the same day so I hopefully dont mess things up.

I thought the wiring between the SAFC 1 and 2 were the same? Colors and everything?

Well maybe. I'm not sure though. But I know settings may be different...or at least how you set it. I just want to make sure its done right.

Re: SAFC Installation and Settings Help

Yeah, settings may be a little different because there aren't as many rpm points to tune for compared to the 2.

Re: SAFC Installation and Settings Help

The SAFC 2 has 1 extra wire for knock, which was so useless that they dropped that feature in the SAFC Neo. Just set the high - low TH-point at 25% and 50%. Then set every setting in the low throttle RPMs and high throttle RPMs to -12%, except for around idle (low throttle and usually 1000RPMs). Set the idle area to something like -5 or even 0. Then just go very easy on the car until you can get it tuned. The O2 sensor will compensate a lot at idle/part throttle, so you just have to be somewhat in the ballpark and it should run fine.
