91 Galant VR4

I swore I would never get another DSM after my 91 TSi... I also said my RX-7 would run too. I guess this just makes me out to be a liar.

The VERY small (and cheap) mod list:
SAFCII (free from 1G)
Modified intake (made for free at my friend's shop)
Full exhaust (came on the car)
Ultra-lite A/F and Boost Gauges (free from 1G)
CI Boost Controller ($20, crap, I spent money)
And enough Gas and Oil to support the mid-east for a lifetime.

I picked it up for $1500, but haven't had much time to work on it. I've always wanted one, especially since I got rid of my 1G. Hopefully in the next week I'll have finished my MSD Superconductor wire set (free, from left over parts from my Jetta).

On a technicality you don't have a DSM. DSM = anything made by mitsu+chrysler. Galant VR4 = 100% Mitsu, made in Japan.

Doesn't the steel pipe welded to the rear of the hacked up air can count for anything? LoL

There will be more pics as I get more into it. I'm actually putting some planning into this car. At the current moment I am focusing on a liquid-to-air intercooling system. It is indeed a project car, just in the very very early stages.

I actually had to get a flashlight and go look under the hood for myself on this one. Absolutely no DSM stickers anywhere. So that should mean I should have fewer breakdowns.... and not leak as much oil... I can dream a little.

The GVR4 was winning rallys before the DSM was ever made.

I have a really nice water to air setup if you like. GVR4 < DSM, what number is it and how many miles?

Re: 91 Galant VR4

#1028, around 160k miles.

Turned it up to 15psi, lovely boost creep till it fuel cuts at 17. Had to crimp the dipstick tube to keep it from blowing oil ALL over the place, now it's isolated to the turbo/manifold area, good place to start a fire. I should keep some marshmallows and a stick handy for such an event.

This happened at our dyno day two years ago at LSE. turbotalon1g showed up asking for a fire extinguisher!

Well, I guess this changes the course of the project. I will be swapping in the 4 bolt rear earlier than planned. The new plan is to build the drivetrain to handle around 450, then working on getting the engine to that point.

I was around 105 when it started to howl really bad. I figured a tire was starting to fail, then came the loud grinding, which convinced me to pull off. I thought maybe that nut in the tranny finally came off, or the yoke fell apart in the transfer case. I check under it and everything was clean (except the engine, just because it always leaks). Then I looked back and the entire differential was covered in oil. At the point I just said I'm not dealing with it tonight and had it hauled back to the shop.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

thats too bad, but then again a nice 4 bolt would be great!
