down pipe bolts
Just wonder if I need air tools to get my exhaust down pipe bolts off of the 02 housing? Or if anyone has been sucessful with a breaker bar?

Re: down pipe bolts
I used a breaker bar and twisted those bolts in half. Good luck.

Re: down pipe bolts
Yeah, air tools and PB Blaster are great. At least PB, soak, twist, Pb, Soak, twist, etc. Same thing with manifold to turbo bolts. I've broken a couple trying to get them off with sheer force.
Don't forget to use some good anti-seize when you put them back together as well. |
Re: down pipe bolts
aw crap, well as long as I don't break the studs I should be alright right? I've been spraying them down alot and when I try to get them off I will take it slow with penetrating oil.

Re: down pipe bolts
You have a better chance of breaking the studs by taking it slow with a breaker bar rather than just giving it a quick "snap". After you get them broken loose then take it slow and if they start to seize up, spray with more lube, spin them back on a bit, more lube, then continue removing (repeat as necessary).

I'll keep the fingers crossed, now I know why I wish I had air tools. I had a good emoticons line going, aw.

Re: down pipe bolts
I never had any problems with mine. I use my home made razor scooter extension/breaker bar to get the studs outa my manifold every time and it works great! I don't remember having any problems with my o2 housing either.
