Re: Autocross season started!!!
This was the second day of the 2 day novice school. Read reviews of the weekend here: http://forum.mnautox.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8952
I know myself, mustgofaster and Kracka are signed up for the June school. Hopefully a bunch of you sign up for other events throughout the season. This coming weekend is the first two events of the season, Saturday and Sunday at Valley Fair. It does conflict with the dyno day on Satuday, but I know a couple people are going to come and watch, I believe mustgofaster is signed up as well. If you're there toward the end of the day they do have exhibition runs for $1. Bring a helmet just in case and I'll be glad to take you around the course in my car. |
Re: Autocross season started!!!
I was at this school, there was a guy that needed to trade so I got bumped up. I mannaged a 32.825. Not too bad, but I really wish I would have tried a run in 1st gear at least once. Was great fun. I'm signed up for next weekend but might not be able to make it.

Re: Autocross season started!!!
Looks like it could be fun but I don't know if I could get into racing a clock instead of an actual opponent.
How big are the courses? |

Re: Autocross season started!!!
You are racing an opponent; they're just not on the track with you. :D
The one I ran was at Midway Stadium, they said it's the smallest lot they run. It took 27-108 seconds to run it. The 108 was done by a grandma in a Preuis on her first run. She got down to a 38 by the end of it! The 27 by an instructor in a prepped Mini, I didn't see the clock, only heard the Mini ran a 27, don't know if it's true, but I'd believe it's possible. Due to the small track, you got up to ~45 MPH tops for the quick cars. I'd guesstamate about a ¼ mile long. Odd to think you could drive that far in a parking lot. See below, the person I talked probably didn't know what they were talking about. |

Re: Autocross season started!!!
Midway is really a poor example of what AutoX can be. I usually get my best times in first gear. Valley Fair will be much closer to a nationals style AutoX, but you have to go to Milwaukee to have real fun. ;)

Re: Autocross season started!!!
Even with the "poor example" I'm pritty much hooked. I got to go for a couple rides in your car BTW, quite fun, but he had a little trouble keeping it right where he wanted due to having 4 people in it!
