New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Hughes always makes fun of me for it, but I like to keep a semi low-profile in the evo. I bought the car after having my 2G, and the less looks I get from the po-po or ricers, the better. I tried keeping it low-pro since I got it by skipping the a-pillar gauges everyone else has and doing the steering column mounted gauge pod. I thought this was great until people told me they could see it from the outside.
Well I just lived with it until I got my Aquamist alky kit, the DDS gauge needed to go somewhere. After talking it over with rosey (Rose0529) we figured out a cool gaugepod solution that not many others are doing, and requires minimal modification of....anything! Old setup: Decent, but it blocked my CEL (sucks for me having KnockCEL mod), and the other two-gauge pod version of this unit would block my gas gauge. This setup blocks the odometer. Just blocking too many stock gauges IMHO! http://www.scheides.com/albums/aquam...0185.sized.jpg New setup: Rosey machined a block of 1/2" aluminum into this neato pod setup. Yes 1/2" is a bit thick, but I got it for cheap and we are just kinda prototyping these things, trying them out to see what works. Mine turned out good, but the next one will be even better! http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/Picture1.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/sprin...6644.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/sprin...6645.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/sprin...6647.sized.jpg It seems a tad low, but a few things to consider. I have a 3bar (evo X) map sensor in my car now, so I can log boost. I don't need to keep an eye on the boost gauge hardly at all anymore. The Aquamist DDS gauge manages all of the failsafes for the alky kit. If there is a problem, it deals with it. I do not have to. If I want to make sure everything is all good, I just look down and it is right there :) Plus, the on/off button is right in front of my hand now for quick access to high/low boost thanks to my mapswitching tephra v5 setup! |

Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
lol, way to go evo clique.
That looks like an awesome piece. I feel the same way you do scheides. I have my boost gauge on my steering column in the perfect spot, doesn't block shit but the e brake light. I just like to have everything in the same spot so when i do look down when driving its all right there. |
Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Looking nice. All it needs now is some flat black powder coat on it to look stock :)

Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
looks good. I have my gauges all in the lower din of the stereo to get them out of the way.

Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Looks nice! Why not have the guages up on the pillar so they are easy to see? Or can you swap your radio to the spot the guages are now and put the guages up top?
Your floormats/carpet are dirty. :) |
Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Scheides is still trying to convince himself his car is a sleeper so he is trying to hide the gauges ;) There are kits available that put the gauges where the radio is, and the radio where the cubby/his gauges are now.

http://jj.am/gallery/d/28641-1/fuckyoucracka.jpg Like I said, I want to see my stereo more than my boost gauge. I have boost dialed in and it's not a big deal to me if it fluctuates a little anyways (which it doesn't!). I don't think my car is a sleeper, just like to keep things nice and low-key with it. No wing and no visable gauge pod = less cops on my ass, IMHO. Not that the tint helps.... After driving around with this new setup, I have to say I absolutely LOVE it. I don't have the boost gauge staring me in the face begging me to be pegged again and again and again. I can focus on driving, tearing up the tarmac! |
Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
looks nice! whats rosey charging for these pieces?

Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Looks awesome Scheides! I like the custom plate, Rosey did a great job on it.
Just want to say thanks again for the quick ass install of my fuel pump, I was very happy with the results and got mad FP install skills son! Here's a pic of my setup close to being done, not very low key though. http://www.thedoughtcom.com/images/c...r/evo_dash.jpg |
Re: New Gauge Setup in the Evo!
Looks good Scheides. It's better in the long run to do a clean, "tucked" job than just sticking shit everywhere.
