Anyone install a FMIC on their own 2G?
Whats a good make/model for the $ ? Hoping to get something descent around $600 or so? How hard is the install? TIA....... |
Ive known of quite a few people installing their own. I know the BigGReddy is sorta popular. Barton (Slow White) has had a GReddy and the Apexi Skyline FMIC. I think he did the install work himself as well. Possibley Enes too.

MOVED! In no way was this needed in Tech.

Well it's not Tech. More so, not even close to advanced tech.
-- With a FMIC you get what you pay for. On 2Gs it's brand name Greddy/APEXi or you can buy some of the newer kits from differant companies. Pro Street, ect. But for less than $600.00. You won't find a nice new core design with endtanks and piping. |
Easy to install = small core
You need one that you have to mod every piece on the front end!! :D |
Sorry Allen, me Bad, ......again......
Thought I was in Basic Tech, but wasn't and then couldn't move my post? Anyway, Thanks for your input...... |
slowboyracing has em for cheap

Check....
So around $850 for a nice big tanker with kit then right? Back to jets point, these big biatches gonna just be a PIA to install I suppose then? Any smaller cores that are still "nice" out there? |
em... meaning them.... www.slowboyracing.com has THEM for cheap

What kind of plans do you have for the car? If you are going to stay 12's or higher, I would probably just get a big Greddy kit.
|
Hell, If I can bust into the 13's this year it would be amazing.
Why is the Greddy just a POS or not support higher boost or? Plan on running 20 psi on pump gas, maybe 22 at the track on race gas. |
No, the Greddy is pretty decent, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it! It is a nice kit, but not an all out race kit that requires more cutting and costs more. It should be fine to a 12.0 (it will go lower but will start to be a restriction).
|
What turbo you running 22 psi on? Hopefully not a T too small...
Get whatever is going to support your final goal. No need in buying a huge FMIC if you want to accomplish high 12s. But at the same time you don't want to get a small inefficient IC *cough STARQUEST cough* if you intend to replace it later with a larger one--not worth the work and money. |
Guess my final "dream run" would bust me into the high 11's, just once mind you.
Sounds like that Greddy could push a 11.87 on some cool morning right? Did you take a peak at that Greddy setup slowboy has? Will that HOG really fit in my 2G Talons front bumper without hacking it to shit! Looks pretty tight man? BTW Running a Big 16 now. |
I know I will get flamed for this, but since you are looking for a lower priced unit check out www.ahpproducts.com Stage 2 FMIC kits on sale for $650.
|
Anyone out there run with one of these AHP setups yet? Is the Greddy worth the extra $200 or not? Looks to me like the Greddy's IC piping is at least steel?
Still need install review on that Greddy on a 2G? TIA..... |

I do know the owner and talk with him semi-regularly. We keep in touch. I have found it best to drive to Eau Claire to pick stuff up from AHP if you don't live to far away. You can also deal through Archer Racing since they are an AHP vendor. IMO, the AHP is nicer than the GReddy, it uses a better core design and better pipe routing.

I have personally witnessed a big greddy fmic kit aid in a FP small T28 pound out a 12.2 1/4 mile. I'd say it's support 11s with the right combo with ease.
I won't give my opinion on other kits out there as I have only personally used the APEXi Small setup which is just a bit smaller than the large greddy and for a complete kit I loved it. I am firm on the whole "you get what you pay for" thought process on something like a Front mount. |
