setting timing on 91 laser
 

so my buddy is putting a timing belt onto a 91 laser with the 2.0 turbo motor.

can someone give me a quick walk through for setting the timing of the cams?

There's a mark on each of the cam gears. Make sure they're lined up pointing toward eachother. put the belt on, then rotate the engine by hand and make sure everything still lines up.

thanks man, i figured there were going to be marks, just wernt sure what to line them up with.

correct me if im wrong, but the engine should be at TDC on the number 1 cylinder correct?

Make sure the dowels on the cam gears are pointing up when you line the marks up. Line up the oil pump marks and the timing marks. Pretty simple really. The only hard part (for me anyway) is getting the tensioner gap right, but I think as long as you're ballpark you're probably just fine.
