Aquamist HFS-1 alky kit
 

This kit is going to take a few days to install, so I'll document it as I go along.

A few months back I decided to ditch my SMC alky kit and upgrade to an Aquamist. There were a number of different reasons behind this, but ultimately the Aquamist is the best kit/combo available right now. It all boils down to two things: instant on/off spraying, and actual support for a real life failsafe.

The Aquamist has a HUGE pump that is always on. The top 1/4 of it is a bolt-on manifold that they designed so it can supply a constant 125psi to the fluid line, no matter how much flow there is. Full flow or zero flow. This kit has a valve that is placed in the line just before the injection point that instantly supplies perfect flow or zero flow to the engine.

The other thing I plan to do with this new setup is pretty amazing, and really clutch for this whole project. ECU hacks are being developed for the evo 8 ecu that will allow different fuel/timing/boost maps based on a voltage input to a free ecu pin. I've worked with Aquamist UK to figure out a good way to use this Aquamist kit to do this. The DDS Flow monitoring gauge for this kit has an on/off switch, so I'll be able to switch between fully tuned straight pump gas map@24psi to a fully tuned alky map@28psi with literally the push of a button. Also if anything ever goes wrong with the alky kit, I will revert to my pump gas map so all will be safe.

There's lots more to go on and on about with this kit, but I'll just jump into it. This kit is really comprehensive. A picture is worth a thousand words (and parts!) For reference, the pump is about the size of one of those big 24oz silver bullet beer cans:

This kit is kinda DIY in that you have to assemble *everything* yourself, you have to source your own alky tank, and any installation accessories you have to get yourself. I got some nice techflex to wrap up the tubing and wiring as it runs here and there through the car.

Here's the mount I made out of 1.5" x .125" aluminum from Menards. This holds the tank and pump:

That's all for day two, I probably have about 4 hours into this kit install as of now. Lots of time sitting and fiddling with all of the little pieces :)

uh oh, scheides is gonna be a little quicker than i thought.
I can say that if E85 ever disappeared then i would do this.

E85 is not easily available for me, so this is the route I'm taking :) Anyone w/o access to reliably high-octane, quality gasoline should consider a setup like this!

Nice. I plan on getting one of these rather than going E-85. At least with this route, you can save a little fuel mileage.

Well it was *really* nice out today and after a few days out of town I was excited to get some time in on this project. First thing I did was yank the tank and flip the float sensor over into the correct orientation, I felt like a dumbass about that one but it was nice that everything came apart so nicely :)

I then ran power and my small hose to the engine bay, and mounted the flow sensor and valve to the right of the glovebox (thanks for the tip KevinD!). I am focusing on keeping the wiring as clean as possible so I did not finish tonight.

There's a nice spot just above the glove box that this will be secured to. For now its just in the glove box while I test everything out and get the DDS dialed in. The wires to teh top right will be tie wrapped a bit more so they're all out of the way:

Wow, really impressive sheides, I can't imagine all that wiring was easy to keep track of.

Looks factory like, atleast who may ever buy your car in the future will be getting a car that was well done.

Looks nice! Why not get gauge pods on the pillar or does anyone make a bezel to put to the sides and under the dash, like they do for 2gs?
