I was wondering if it is worth changing my 2000 AUTO Neon into a manual neon

I wonder how much it would cost and also if it worth it

KEMMY JUST SHUT UP PLEASE I just want to hear from other people too

Jakey 02-28-2004 11:18 PM

No idea what it would cost, but I know there is no way it would be worth it as Neons are not that valuable of a car in the first place. Do not waste your time, ambition, or money.
...My $0.02

NoNameSteaks 02-28-2004 11:21 PM

ok it is just sometimes U just see a punk kid thinks he is so cool with his rice rocket and u just want to show him his place and until I get the car I want then I have nothing good to kick their ass.

Goat Blower 02-28-2004 11:50 PM

Get a shift kit instead, a 5-speed isn't going to do much for a stock Neon. Plus their only worth a grand once the warranty's up anyways. A tranny swap would cost more than the car's worth.

NoNameSteaks 02-28-2004 11:59 PM

shift kit please explain I am a newb to the car world and where would I get it? I think I know what it is but need to find one then

NoNameSteaks 02-29-2004 12:56 AM

still wondering if ppl can help me find or want more information about the shift kit

www.google.com

also, just save up for an SRT-4 they are the fastest car ever made in the whole world. /sarcasm

they seriously are cool but probably too expensive for you. what i suggest is read the internet about shift kits and if possible, make one yourself, i have heard of people using different springs or whatnot in transmissions and it shifts so hard it breaks after a while.

to make your car fast4r, you should: advance timing, get a header, look for cam(s) and port the crap out of the head. cheap/free mods are best.

NoNameSteaks 02-29-2004 01:18 AM

oooookkkkkkk so I will buy my eclipse first, lol

slowbubblecar 02-29-2004 11:10 AM

if you really want a manual, sell the auto than buy a manual.

Jana 02-29-2004 12:55 PM

You can do things to make your auto faster. I have an auto eclipse (turbo'd though) and plan on building it up. Auto's are actually better for drag racing because you can be more consistent on launching, etc.

FattyBoomBatty 02-29-2004 02:26 PM

the only problem is they have one less gear (usually) and aren't as fun. but you keep the turbot spooled better when dragging!

Or two in my case. :razz2:

NoName, neons are very easy to find for cheap. After about 4 years, their prices crash. Though there won't be a lot of improvement from an auto to a manual in your case, it may be your best bet. Sell your current car and get a 5-speed, or find someone who'd be willing to trade.

If you really want to put a punk kid in his place, you might want to start somewhere other than a neon.. :dsmrule:

NoNameSteaks 02-29-2004 05:06 PM

yeah I think I will start saving for my Eclispe I want...and leave the Neon alone

that's the spirit! but you can do free mods to any car. is this car nice enough to keep in good condition? because if it's crappy, i say advance the timing, unplug the knock sensor, gut the cat(s) advance the cam... if you can. uhhh, what other cool things can you do.. strip it of all unnecessary parts, like carpets, seats, spare tire and jack, and all that good stuff. then cut your springs to lower it and save weight.

cut the handle down on your auto shifter and say it's a "short shifter" lol. take off the hood, then take off the bottom part of the air filter box, duct tape the filter to the top part, and pull it up into the air stream, and duct tape it there, now you have ram air. get dryer hose and pipe it from the front to your brakes for superior cooling.

also deflate the front tires a bit for better traction when launching.

jimwross 02-29-2004 05:25 PM

do you have the sohc or dohc 420a?

FattyBoomBatty 02-29-2004 05:28 PM

oh i forgot, you can always junkyard-turbo it!

if you have a welder and 50 bucks, it can be done.

Why would you want to unplug the knock sensor?

Shane@DBPerformance 02-29-2004 06:53 PM

I hope he was joking.

MATCHBX 02-29-2004 06:55 PM

Actually, what you said about saving up for the eclipse you want is your best bet. But make sure you keep your neon in good running shape. Don't mod it or anything. You will need a spare car for when your eclipse breaks after modding it too much. ;)

Seriously though, if the neon runs good and gets good gas mileage, keep it that way!!! You will really like to have it around when gas prices go thru the roof or when you need to haul around more than one extra person. It's always nice to have a fall back car.

NoNameSteaks 02-29-2004 07:01 PM

the only prob right now is the trani is leaking a little and the I like to shift myself....I mean I shouldn't but it is more fun. so I am hopfulling going to go this week sometime and get that checked out. hopfully it isn't fucked up if it is then I am mad, but Kemmy knows that I fucking beat the shit out of the car but whatever.

Yo Andy this is Kemmy's neighbor u remember me I hope.

People here can call me David, Ducky (school nickname, don't ask), or Steaks.
