Help me price a sonata with bad engine
I know this is a stupid thing to ask on here and I'd go nuts with research if I had the time, but....
My aunt has a 2001 hyundai sonata which developed a nasty knock. Bottom end, very loud, essentially the engine is fried. She wants it gone quickly and asked me if I could sell it for her. Unfortunately I'm a little lost on what to ask for it so I'm seeking a little advice. Here's the basics: 2001, 4 cylinder, automatic, 61k miles, some side swipe damage (missing trim piece and dimpling in of both drivers side doors). Otherwise reasonable quality. I'm hoping to get a craigslist posting up today. |
Re: Help me price a sonata with bad engine
$200
The car wouldn't be worth much even in good running condition, but here it has a junk engine and body damage. She should consider donating it for a tax write-off. |
Re: Help me price a sonata with bad engine
I know. They seem to go for about $2,500 with good engines and no body damage. :( It's a sad story. She got duped by a dealership and was told when she bought it the warranty was still in effect. Big loss.
As an aside, anybody that can work a deal at a dealership sure would be welcome. Shes looking for something in the camry, accord, altima, 6, style. Good family car with a bit of comfort/luxury. |
Re: Help me price a sonata with bad engine
I can find her a good car and make sure an extended warranty is an extended warranty. Plus I can probably soften the blow of her previous loss with a good deal on something else. Have her give me a call on my cell, 612-750-1338. I'll be on vacation for the next week in sunny Mesa, but I'll return messages left on my cell.

Re: Help me price a sonata with bad engine
Reliable would be nice. That has been the big issue with this damn Hyundai. Timing chain failure at 40k. Engine failure at 60k. MAF has been dead forever, not to mention a ton of other sensors I can't remember. She's really looking for something new or nearly new.
If it wasn't a 2001 I'd be tempted to put my extra 6-bolt into it, but it's the newer 2.4. I don't remember what years were an easy swap, but I'm pretty sure it was early 90's only. |
